Description

May 27, 1930. F. M. CORREA 1,760,346
BEDDING CLAMP Filed Dec. l2, 1928 i toothed edge 7, t
Patented May 27, 1930 UNITED STATES FRANK I. CORREA, OF HONOLULU, TERRITORY 0F HAWAII BEDDING cnam? Application led December 12, 1928. Serial No. 325,566.
This invention relates to improvements in a bedding clamp, and has for its object to provide a simple, inexpensive and easily operated means whereby bed clothes may be held in place.
A further object of this invention is to provide in a bedding clamp, a fixed jaw having a shank, and a movable jaw slidable on the shank, and a self-locking connection therewith.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a very simple .and inexpensive means whereby bed clothing may be securely held in lace over infants or others sleepin in the bed.
ith the above and such other objects in view as may be more fullyA hereinafter described, I have invented the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my invention shown in operation.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device removed from the bedding. j 2
Fi ure 3 is an end view thereof, a wall of a sli e member being broken away.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of a clam lock.
Li e reference characters indicate like parts throughout the specifications and in the several views of the drawings, in which 1 indicates a mattress, the cover 2 of which is held fixed thereto at its bottom and side edges by means of a bedding clamp 3, said clamp consisting of a corrugated upper jaw 4 terminating in an integral vertical shank 5 having an elon ated slot 6 therein and a lie upper surface 8 of the teeth being horizontal andthe side walls 9 thereof being inclined, whereby the inclined surface 10 of the dog 11 may slide upwardly over said teeth 7, but will be pressed into engagement by the spring 12, carried on the rear wall 13 thereof, with the horizontal surface of said teeth, in order that when the member 4 on the shank 5 is raised thereon, its movement cannot retract until the finger piece 15 of the lever 16 pivoted at 17 to the walls of the member 14, is pressed to force the dog 11 against the tension of spring 12 out of engagement with said teeth. Integrally formed on the slide 14 is a to jaw 4 in form. v
From the above description it will be seen that it is only necessary to place the jaw member 4 upon the upper surface of the bed clothing on the mattress letting the shank 5 rest against the edge 19 of the mattress, and project the jaw 18 under the mattress, then by pushing the jaw 18 toward the jaw 4 the member 14 will slide up the shank 5 and automatically lock itself, whereby the bed clothing and mattress will be securely clamped together; the corrugations of the jawstaking a firm hold of said bedding and preventing possibility of the clamp slipping from engagement therewith. Thus the bed clothingv will be securely held to the mattress whereb children or other persons will not be able to kick the cover from over them.
Having now described my invention, that which I claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is: v
1. A device of the character described comprising a shank terminating in a fixed aw, at its upper end, said shank being bifurcated jaw 18 similar vand having a toothed inner portion, a slidable jaw, a relatively short socket by which said jaw is carried said socket being slidable upon said shank, and a pawl pivoted within said socket member and operable within said bifurcation and upon said teeth, said pawl having an extension end terminating in a head projecting vabove said socket.
2. A device of the character described comprising a shank terminating in a fixed jaw, at its upper end, said shank be1ng blfurcated and havinga toothed inner portlon, a slid-l able jaw, a relatively short socket by whlch said jaw is carried said socket being slldable upon said shank, and a pawl pivoted wltlnn said socket member and operable w1th1n sald bifurcation and upon'said teeth, said awl having an extension end terminating in a lead projecting above said socket, both of said jaws being corrugated.
In testimony whereof I aiix my signature.
FRANK M. CORREA.
