Abstract

The purpose of the invention is to provide secure strapping of a mattress variator to either a divan bed or to a slatted bed base (2 figure 3). The strapping arrangement comprises one or more straps and attachment means that direct the strap either over the side of a divan bed or through the gap between two slats on a slatted bed base. The attachment means comprises a clamp plate 6 with a strap 3 protruding from under it and which attaches to the slatted bed. The clamp plate has an open sided slot 19 on its outer edge with respect to the side of the bed, such that the strap can be fed into the slot and upwards over the outer edge of the clamp plate to resume a downward direction.

Description

249/8 A MATTRESS VARIATOR RETENTION MEANS The use of mattress variators is well known.
As the devices are placed on to the top of the bed and under the mattress there are always issues with keeping the mattress variator in the correct position.
There are several strapping methods known for the purpose of keeping the variator on station and in the correct position on a divan bed. There is no such strapping means known to us for fining the variator satisfactorily to a slatted bed base.
The present invention provides a means of strapping of the variator that can be simply adapted for use on a divan bed or on a slatted bed.
In order that the invention maybe better understood reference will now be made to the attached drawings where: -Fig 1 shows a three dimensional view of a slatted bed with the mattress vthator fitted under the mattress.
Fig 2 shows a three dimensional view of the same arrangement as shown in Fig 1 but with the mattress removed.
Fig 3 shows a three dimensional view of a slatted bed with the mattress and most of the mattress variator removed.
Fig 4 shows a section through the retention means and has the mattress, the mattress variator and most of the bed removed.
Fig 5 shows the large clamp plate with the small clamp plate in the central position and with the variator pivot pins removed.
Fig 6 shows a large clamp plate with the variator pivot pins removed and the small clamp plate pushed slightly upwards and out of it's centrally locked position.
Fig 7 shows substantially the same arrangement as Fig 6 but with the small clamp plate moved to the left.
Fig 51 shows a three dimensional view of a divan bed with the mattress variator fitted.
Fig 52 shows substantially the same arrangement as shown in Fig 51 but with the mattress removed.
Fig 53 shows the invention on a divan bed and with the mattress and most of the mattress variator removed, Fig 54 shows the large clamp plate with the mattress variator pivot parts engaged on the variator pivot pins.
Fig 55 shows substantially the same arrangement as Fig 54 but with the mattress variator pivot parts removed.
Fig 56 shows substantially the same arrangement as Fig 55 but with the two variator pivot pins removed.
Fig 57 shows substantially the same arrangement as Fig 55 but shown from the opposite side.
Fig 58 shows the large clamp plate with the strap removed.
Fig 59 shows a section through the large clamp plate, the small clamp plate and the strap (11).
Note in some drawings the variator pivot pins (7) are shown in tact and in other drawings these variator pivot pins are cut away for clarity and called item (17).
Now referring to the above mentioned drawings and firstly relating to a slatted bed (2). A mattress (1) is retained by means of a mattress top restraining strap (3). The mattress (1) is arranged to be positioned directly on top of a mattress variator body lift section (4) and a mattress variator knee lift section (5). The mattress variator is connected via holes (13) (14) to variator pivot pins (7) which form an integral part of a large clamp plate (6). A small clamp plate (8) is arranged to fit within a location in the large clamp plate, under the small clamp plate (8) is a slot (15) in the large clamp plate (6) for a strap to pass through. The small clamp plate (8) can be moved to various positions along the large clamp plate as required. The mattress top retaining strap (3) is arranged to pass over the mattress (3) down the outside of the slatted bed base (2) and then up between two slots and then pass through the slot (15) in the large clamp plate, the strap then passes through the small clamp plate (8), over the central part of the small clamp plate (8) and then through the second opening in the small clamp plate (8) and then back through the slot (5), in the large clamp plate (6), the large clamp plate (6) has a hole (9) through which a strap (12) is passed to connect to the straps that restrain the mattress (I) from moving down the slatted bed base (2). The force of the mattress pulling the large clamp plate towards the foot of the bed is offset by the force of the mattress variator upper body lifting section (4) acting towards the head of the bed. Because slatted bed bases come in different sizes and with the slats in different sizes and on different pitches it is necessary to move the position of the mattress top retaining strap (3) relative to the mattress variator. This relative position of the mattress top retaining strap (3) is altered by moving the small clamp bracket vertically upwards by a little more than its thickness so that it can be moved along the large clamp (6) bracket to a new desired position. The small clamp bracket (8) can then be lowered and engaged in the nearest location position.
When used on a divan bed the mattress variator retention means is modified in the method of strapping. The strap (3) is fed through an entry slot (19) to position it in slot (18). The strap (3) is then coming up and out of slot (18) it is then lowered over the outside edge of large clamp plate (6) to go over the edge and then under the divan bed (10). We will now call this strap the under bed strap (11) when used on a divan bed. A second strap (20) goes over the mattress (1) to retain it and is connected to the strap (11).
The invention can be seen to be adaptable for use on a divan bed base or a slatted bed base by changing the strapping arrangement.
Accordingly the present invention comprises a mattress variator retention means comprising a large clamp plate (6) with a strap protruding from under it for attachment to a slatted bed and said large clamp plate (6) having an open sided slot on its outer edge with respect to the side of the bed that the strap can be fed into and in an upwards direction and then placed over the outer edge of the large clamp plate (6) to resume in a downward direction, the new position of the strap allowing it to go down the side of a divan bed.
