warren STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PIPETTE.
Application filed October 18, 1926.
The object of this invention is to provide a device for laboratory use under usual conditions, but having a silver or other form of metallic tip or cap, preferably ct cone shape, and adapted to fit over the lower end of the instrument, so that when inserted into he liquid it will not be fractured by contact with the bottom of the receptacle.
A further object is to provide a tip of the kind indicated, which shall have an internal screw thread for engagement with an eXter-' nal thread on the end of the tip, the tip being adapted to fit tubes of different sizes.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of elements de scribed, illustrated and claimed, it being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming part of this application,
Figure 1 is a view of a pipette in elevation, with the tip or cap applied thereto.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary view showing the tip in longitudinal section and the end of the tube in elevation.
A pipette of ordinary commercial type is designated 10, and includes a tapered or cone-shaped end 11, which may be externally threaded as shown at 12.
A. metallic cap 14 to be made preferably of silver, is of cone shape and includes a nozzle portion 15. Internal threads 16 in the cap cooperate with the threads 12 on the tube. and the cap is thereby detachably re Serial No. 142,408.
tained, and may be applied to other tubes when desired, even though they may be of diiierent sizes, provided only that the threads of the tube to be employed properly engage the threads of the cone-shaped cap or tip.
The instrument to which the cap is applied, is thus protected from fracture by direct contact between the lower end and the bottom or a container or the like, and the tip may be used as a nozzle for transferring the liquid withdrawn to another tube or container.
Having described the invention what is claimed is 1. The combination with a tube having a tapered end, of a cone-shaped cap connected with the tapered end and having a discharge nozzle portion.
2. The combination with a tube including a tapered end portion, this portion being eX- ternally threaded, of a cone-shaped cap internally threaded and connected with the tapered end portion of the tube.
3. The combination with a graduated tube having a tapered end portion, this portion including engaging means, of a cap fitting the tapered end ot the tube and including engaging means cooperating with those first named, the free end of the cap including a nozzle portion.
In testimony whereof we a' tures.
our signa- MAURILLE GERVAIS. WILFRED BIRON.
