GINIA COLLAPSIIBLE TUBE This invention relates to collapsible tubes and is particularly applicable to collapsible tubes used as containers for glue or other adhesive materials.
In collapsible tubes as now provided, the glue or other adhesive material within the tube is liable to set around the threads at the'top of the sealing plug and make the removal of the plug difficult. According to the present invention there is provided an arrangement whereby the mass of glue or other adhesive material in the discharge passage of the tube may be kept moist so as to prevent the plug from becoming stuck and to make its removal more easy.
The invention may be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a collapsible tube showing the sealing plug removed, the upper portion of the tube being shown in section;
Figure 2 is a similar view showing the sealing plug in place in the tube; and
IFigure 3 is a detail view of the sealing pug.
In the drawings, 2 designates a collapsible tube of any preferred construction having a shoulder portion 3 and a neck 4. In the neck 4. is a discharge passage 5. The lower inner portion of the passage 5 is restricted, and is threaded as indicated at 6, while the outer portion of the passage is of considerably increased diameter, as indicated at 7 The tube is sealed by means of a plug 8 having a button 9 at the top thereof and having a threaded portion 10 for cooperation with the threads in the restricted portion 6 of the tube.
When the tube is used, the adhesive material, such as glue or other material packed in the tube, is forced out of the tube through the passage 5 and the enlarged portion thereof. When the plug is replaced, some of the glue will collect in the enlarged portion 7, this portion in efiect constituting a reservoir for retaining a small quantity of the adhesive liquid. The button '9 will seat against the top of the tube and retain this liquid in place. By reason of the fact that 1. A collapsible tubehaving a neck portion with a discharge passage therethrough,
the outer end of the discharge passage being of greater diameter than the inner portion, 4
and a sealing plug inserted in the discharge passage, the upper portion of the sealing plug being of less diameter than the diameter or the upper portion of the discharge passage, the plug projecting beyond the end of the neck of the tube.
2. A colla sible tube having a neck portion with a ischarge passage therethrough, the outer end of the discharge passage being of greater diameter than the inner "portion, and a sealing plug inserted in the discharge passage, the upper portion of the sealing plug being of less diameter than the diameter of the upper portion of the discharge passage, said plug having a top thereon adapted to seat against the end of the neck of the tube, thereby forming a closed liquid retaining reservoir in the outer portion of the neck.
3. A collapsible tube having a neck portion with a discharge passage thercthrough, the inner end of the discharge passage being threaded and the outer end of the discharge passage being of increased'diameter, a plug removably inserted in the discharge passage having a threaded portion for engagement with the threads in the inner portion of the discharge passage, a space being provided in the outer portion of the discharge passage around the plug, said plug having a button thereon adapted to seat against the end of the neck.
4. A collapsible tube having a neck portion with a discharge passage therein, a plug retaining means in the inner portion of the passage, the outer portion of the passage being of greater diameter than the mner portion, and a plug'removably inserted in the passage, a space being provided around the plug in the outer portion of the discharge passage, the plugmprojecting beyond the end of the neck of t e tube 5. A collapsible tube having a body portion and a neck portion, said neck portion having a discharge passage therethrough which is enlarged at its outer end to provide a reservoir for material expelled from the body of the tube, and a removable plug having an outer portion which closes the reservoir and an inner portion extending'into and closing the passage between the reservoir and the body. i
