. N. A. BERTRAND COMBINED KEY GUARD, CLOTHES HOOK, AND TOWEL RACK Filed Dec. 7, 1922 d n m 4? w Patented Sept. 30, 1924.
NAPOLEON A. BERTRAND, 01E PITTSFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
COMBINED KEY GUARD, CLOTHES HOOK, AND TOW'EL RACK.
Application filed December '7, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON A. Baa TRAND, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Pittsfield, in the county of Berkshire and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Combined Key Guard, Clothes Hook, and Towel Rack; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention has for its object the provision of an article which is adapted for a variety of uses such as key gaurd, clothes hook and towel rack.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the. invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet different conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the application,
Figure 1 is a front View of the device adapted for use as a key guard,
Figure 2 is a side view showing the device adapted for use as a clothes hook, and
Figure 3 is a detail view showing the device adapted as a towel rack;
Corresponding-and like, parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The. article comprises a stem 1, hook 2 at one end of the stem, crimp or loop 3 at the opposite end of the stem and an inclined arm 4 adapted to act in the capacity of a guide and a suspending peg. A screw point 5 projects laterally from the stem 1 in an opposite direction to the hook 2 and arm 4. The article may be formed from a strip or ribbon of metal or a stout wire cut into proper length and bent into the form substantially as shown. The screw point 5 may be provided and attached in any manner and acts as attaching means when the device is Serial No. 605,446.
adapted for use as a clothes hook or towel rack, as indicated in Figures 2 and 3, respectively.
When the device is used as a key guard, the hook 2 is engaged over the knob spindle 6 of the lock and the crimp or loop 3 engages the stem of the key 7, whereby the latter is prevented from being turned and disengaged from the lock as will be readily understood. The inclined arm 4 operates as a guide to direct the key into the crimp or loop 3, when placing the device in position.
lVhen it is desired to use the device as a clothes hook, it is attached to a wall or other support by means of the screw point 5, the inclined arm i being uppermost and the hook 2 being arranged at the lower end. lVhen thus arranged, as indicated in Figure 2, the hat may be placed upon the arm 4, the collar in the crimp or loop 3 and the coat and vest suspended from the hook 2.
hen the device is used as a towel rack, a pair of the hooks is required and are spaced apart in horizontal alinement, a bar 8 being engaged at its ends by means of the hooks 2. This adaptation is shown most clearly in Figure 3, the bar 8 receiving the towel or other article to be supported. The hpok 2 is preferably formed with a projec tion 9 in the nature of a crimp which constitutes stop to hold the bar 8 properly spaced from the wall.
VVha-t is claimed is:
A device of the character specified consisting of a single strand having a substantially straight portion, a loop disposed at substantially a right angle thereto, an upwardly and outwardly inclined portion eX- tending from the loop at the opposite side to the straight portion and a hook at the end of the straight portion opposite to the loop with the axis of which the straight portion is substantially aligned, and said loop and hook touching a plane common to them and substantially parallel to the straight portion.
In testimony whereof I affix my signa ture in presence of two witnesses.
NAPOLEON A. BERTRAND.
