Application Lfiledy lQetober 8, .1923. Serial No. 667,329.
To all Iwhom t may concern:
Be it known that I, Vro'roRE. LINDroRs,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Butte, in the county of Silver Bow "and State of Montana, have invented a new and useful Vire-Twisting Device, of which the following is a specification.,y
This invention relates, toy a wire twisting device, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device to facilitate the positioning and twisting of a wire employed for securing a hose or similar flexible conduit to a nozzle or splicing pipe. f
A further object of the invention lis to provide a twisting device of this character that may be employed for twisting -and positioning a wire wherein the strands of wire may be secured in proximity with each other, or appreciable distances apart at the will of the operator.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being( understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevational view disclosing a wire twisting device constructed inl accordance with the invention as in use.
Figure 2 is a front elevational kview of the same.
Figure 3 is a front elevational view disclosing a modified form of the same.
4 4 of Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 5--5 of Fi re 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference character 5 designates the threaded shank forming the body portion of the device.
The reference character 6 designates the handle portion of the device, which is employed for rotating the shank to operate the device in a manner to be hereinafter more fully described.
At the opposite end of the threaded shank 5 is the head 7 which is kformed with an opening to receive the reduced end 8 Figure t is a sectional view taken on liney of the yshank which is rvrformed r,with a circumferentialy groove 9' designed to receive transversely extended pin 1() positioned in the head y"Tft-o. permit ofrotafryy movement lof the shank within the head butat the samey time prevent displacement ofthe sha-nk. L y' l .vlor'med in the head are angularl'y-r posed wire receiving` grooves 11 which 'grooves ydefine hook members 12 and afcen-f tral hookmember 13, the hookymembers 12 having c'urvededges14 to contact with the hose o-r article tofwhich the wire .is being secured in a manner to permit the device to be rocked in the final movement of `the tool to tighten thewire.
As shown, the forward side edgesof the head 7 `arey rounded as at 15 to allow the `wire being bent, and which in the present showingisi indicated at 16 to move over the edgesof the head eliminating any possibility ofthey corners of the head cutting Lthe wire duringthe positioning of the wire.
Disposed on vthe threaded shank 5 is a wire drawing` member 17 provided with a base 18which is in the form of a flange pro-` vided with cutk out portions 19 extending no sacos maar, f
from the side edges thereof, and terminating at points adjacent to the shank 5, where the cut out portions are formed with offset portions 20 for the reception of the wire being positioned.
In the use of the device lengths ofA wire having been'bent upon themselves, are positioned on the hose, the ends of the wire pass through the loop formed by bending the wire upon itself as shown by Figure 2 of the drawings, the ends ofthe wire having been previously twisted together as indicated at 21 and `shown more particularly by Figure 1 of the drawings.'`
- The devicey is now positioned in a manner to cause the wires adjacent to the twisted portion 21 to enter the slot-s 19 whereupon ay slight movement ofthe device to a position as shown in dotted lines in Figure 1 of the drawings, causes the wire to be benty downwardly and secured. y
' It might be further stated that when the devicefis positioned asv shownv by Figure 1,y
the handle portion 6 is rotated to cause the wire to be securely positioned on the hose prior to the bendingof` the wire in the final the ends of hose, the Wire is positioned in such a way as to contact with the side faces of the head in a manner as shown by Figure 3 of the drawings, thereby holding the wires in spaced relation with each other.
as shown by Figure 3.
In this form of the invention a wire 22 is employed for holding the side portions or' the wire in proper spaced relation with each other.
I claim 1 A`Wire twisting deviceincluding a threaded shank, a head swiveled on one end of the shank, said head having diagonally disposed grooves formed in one surface thereof, said grooves defining lateral hook members and a central hook member,' a Wire drawing member movable on the threaded shank and having lateral slots, said slots adapted'to revIn'testlmony that l claim the foregoing vas my own, Ivhave 'hereto aHiXed my signature inthe presence or two witnesses.
VCTOR E. LINDFORS.
