Be it known that I, LoUIs A. PioAL, a citizen of France, residing at Parma, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Oliio,,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Fly-Catching Device, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a device for catching flies and the like, and aims to provide a novel and improved device of,
this character having a continuous adhesive coated belt which may be conveniently moved about rollers for presenting a clean surface thereof in order that more flies may be caught, said device being so arranged that flies caught on the belt are scraped therefrom and a fresh supply of-adhesive provided on the belt before that portion" of the same is again brought to a fly catching position.
Another object of theinvention-is the provision of a blade positioned below the continuous fly catching belt and arranged in a removable drawer in order that flies scraped from the belt by the turning thereof to present a clean surface will be deposited into the drawer. which when removed imay be scalded to efliciently clean the same, said,
blade being mounted on a pivot in 'the drawer to permit the same to be swung to engage the belt or to. a position away from said belt.
7 A still further objectof the inventionis to provide a casing about the movable parts of the device, having an enlarged opening in the top wall thereof for exposing a rela .tively large portion of the continuous adhesive coated belt in order that flies may be caught thereon, said exposed portion of the belt lying adjacent said opening for preventing-flies andother matter from gaining access to the interiorof the device unless the same are caught on the belt.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a fly catching device of the kind indicated, which is simple and substantial in construction, which may be manufactured economically, and which will be thoroughly etticient and practical in use. V

In carrying out the invention, theiiuineral l5 designates a rectangular casing having side walls 16, end walls 17, and a bottom 18', said bottom having a depression provided at eaclrcorncr thereof in order to provide supporting feet 19 tor contacting with the surface upon which the rectangular casing rests. Positioned uponthe upper portion of the rectangular casing is a cover 20 having a continuous downwardly extending flange 21 thereon for engaging about the upper portions of the side and end walls. After the belt has been scraped, the adhesive roller 59 contacts therewith, supplying a new quantity of adhesive over the outer surface of the belt, as the lower portion of the roller 59 is positioned in the liquid adhesive carried in the drawer 51. The turning movement of the crank is con tinued until a clean surface of the belt is brought below the opening 27. When in this position the, blade 72 is swung to its downward position into the drawer 67 and the drawer is then removed from the casing in order that the flies and spent adhesive matter may be removed therefrom,by scalding same.
From the foregoing it can be'seen that a fly catching device is provided whereby a clean surface of fly catching adhesive may be positionedbelow the opening 2 7 when de sired, and that-by simply turning the crank 39 the device is ready for another catch.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is: p
1. A device of the character described comprising acasing having an enlarged opening therein, a roller rotatably mounted at each end of said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and lying below said opening, means attached to, one of said rollers for rotating the same in order to turn thebelt, a drawer arranged in one endof said casing for containing a liquid adhesive, an adhesive roller positioned in said-drawer, and spring means engaging saidroller for holding the same in contact with said belt in order to apply adhesive thereto during the turning of said belt.

A device of the character described comprising a casing having an enlarged opening therein, a roller rotatably mounted at'each endof said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and lying below said open-- ing, means attached to one of said rollers for rotating the same in order to turn the belt, a drawer arranged in one end of said casing for containing a liquid adhesive, an
adhesive roller positioned in, said drawer, and spring means engaging said roller for holding the same in contact with said belt in order to apply adhesive thereto durin the turning'of said belt, said adhesive roller engaging the belt at a point adjacent one of the first mentioned rollers and slightly inward thereof in order to yieldably hold the drawer in a closed position.
;3..A device of the character described comprising a casing having an enlarged opening formed in the top wall thereof, a roller rotatably mounted at each end of said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and having the upper portion thereof lying adjacent said opening in said casing, means attached to one of said rollers for rotating the same in order to turn said belt, said casing having another opening formed in one end wall thereof, a drawer slidably mounted in said second mentioned opening,
an adhesive roller positioned in said drawer,
a pair of spring members one arranged at each end of said adhesive roller for hhlding the same in engagement with said belt, and means for guiding the movement of said roller by said spring members.
i. A device of the character described comprising a casing having an enlarged openlng formed in the top wall thereof, a roller rotatably mounted at each end of said casing, a. belt trained aboutsaid rollers and having'the upper portion thereof lying adjacent said opening in said casing, means attached to one of said rollers for rotating the same in order to turn said belt, said casing having another opening formed in one end "all thercot, a drawer slidablv mounted in said second mentioned opening, an adhesive roller positioned in said drawer, a pair of spring nnnnbers one aranged at each end of said adhesive roller for holding the same in eiigagement with said belt, and means tor adding the moveincnt of said roller by said spring members, said adhesive roller being adapted to engage the upper edge oi said second mentioned opening and lie slightly on the outside thereof in order to yieldably hold the drawer in an open position to permit a liquid adhesive to be supplied to said drawer.
5. A lly catching device of the character described comprising a casing having an enlarged opening in the top *all thereof, a roller rotatabt mounted at each end ot said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and having a portion thereof lying in close noxiinity to said opening in said casing, means for rotating one of said rollers for turning said belt, means for applying an adhesive to said belt as the same turned, said casing having an opening in one side wall thereof, a drawer slidably mounted in said opening, a blade pivotally mounted in said drawer and adapted to be swung to a position to engage the belt for removing llies therefrom upon turning movement thereof for depositing the liies into the drawer.

A fly catching device of the character described comprising a casing having an nlarged opening therein, a pair of rollers one rotatably mounted in each end of said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and having a portion thereof lying in close proximity to said opening, means for rotating one of said rollers for turning said belt,
means for applgi'ing an adhesive to said belt as the same is turned, said casing having an o iening formed in oneside Wall thereof, a l'Gll'lOYttlllO drawer slidably mounted in said opening and adapted to lie below the belt, a rod pivotally mounted in said drawer, a blade attached to said rod and adapted to be brought into engagement with the belt for scraping flies therefrom, a lever attached to one end of said rod for operating the movement of the blade, and means for holdii'ig said lever in a position with the blade in engagement with the belt.
i. A ily catching device of the character described comprising a casing having an enlarged opening therein, a pair of rollers one rotatably mounted in each end of said casing, a belt trained about said rollers and having a portion thereof lying in close proximity to said opening, means for rotating one ot said rollers for turning said belt, means for applying an adhesive to said belt as the same is turned, said casing having an opening formed in one side wall thereof, a removable d awer slid-ably mounted in said opening and adapted to lie below the belt, a rod pivotally mounted. in said drawer, a blade attached to said rod and adapted to be brought into engagement with the brit for scraping flies therefrom, a lever attached to one end of said rod for operating the movement of the blade, means for holding said lever in a position with the blade in engagement with the belt, and stops formed on said drawer to be engaged by the blade to prevent the same from being swung pastits position for engaging the belt.
