Description

J. BECKER COLLAR FASTENER Filed Dec. 10, 1924 Dec. 22, 1925 John Bccher nvmvrox Y ATTORNEY Patented Dec. 22, 1925.
JOHN BECKER, or WARREN, IDAHO.
COLLAR FASTENER.
Application filed December 10, 1924. Serial No. 755,091.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
B it known that JOHN BECKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vl arren, in the county of Idaho and State of Idaho, has invented new and useful Improvements in Collar Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a device for fastening collars at the front on the collar-band of a shirt so that the collar may be effectively held and yet avoid the necessity of having to spread or distort the button-hole tab, as is the case with the ordinary front collar button.
lVith this object in view, the invention consists in the construction and combination of parts of which a preferred embodiment is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the front portion of a shirt collar-band and the connecting ends of a collar, showing the device in operative position.
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device detached from the collar and with the parts in extended position.
Figure 4 is a detail perspective view of the base plate.
The post 1, which engages in the buttonholes of the collar-band 2 of a shirt and in the button-holes of the collar tabs 3, is mounted at an intermediate point on the base plate 4: which is preferably of rectangular form and formed at one end with the upturned ears 5 perforated to receive the lateral projections 6 formed at one extremity of and constituting pivots for the intermediate plate 7 which dimensionally corresponds to the base plate and is formed intermediately with a clearance opening 8 through which the post 1 may pass when the intermediate plate lies against the base plate towards which it is yieldingrly impelled by a leaf spring 9 secured to the base plate and terminating between the ears of the latter to hear upon the heel 10 of the intermediate plate which is beyond the pivots 6.
Obviously. the oscillation or rocking of the intermediate plate on its pivots will effeet a depression of the spring 9 because of the heel portion 10 thereof being moved towards the base plate, the spring bearing upon the heel portion and thereby tending to yieldingly impel the intermediate plate towards the base plate when it is disposed on one side and away from the base plate when disposed on the opposite side of the Thus, the intermediate plate has pivots. a spring tendency towards or away from the base plate.
In the application of the device, the base plate is placed behind the co1larband of the shirt and the post inserted through the one or two button-holes of the collar-band, depending on whether the shirt opens at the front or is closed thereat. The intermediate plate is then swung down against the collarband on the front and the two collar tabs at- 7.
tached to the post by the insertion of the latter through the button-holes in the former. Thereafter, the latch plate 11, which is hingedly secured to an ear 14 formed at the opposite edge of the intermediate plate from the pivots, is swung up into a position of parallelism with the intermediate plate, the post passing through the opening 15 in the latch plate and the spring jaws 16 of the latter engaging the neck 1? formed on the post. The spring jaws are formed with extended crossing terminals 18 which may be engaged by the fingers of the hand and pressed towards each other, thus separating the jaws to readily release them from engagement with the post and thus provide for readily disconnecting the latch plate from the post and the separation of the intermediate plate and the base plate to release the device from the collar and from the shirt-band.
T he invention having been described, what is claimed as new and useful is:
1. A fastener for the purpose indicated comprising a base plate provided with an in- 9 termediately positioned post. an intermedi ate plate pivotally connected at one end to the base plate and having an intermediate clearance opening for said post, and a latch plate pivotally connected at the opposite end 1 of the intermediate plate and provided with spring jaws engaging the post when the plates are disposed in parallelism.
2. A device for the purpose indicated comprising a base plate having an intermediately positioned post, an intermediate plate pivotally connected at one end of the base plate, means for yieldingly impelling the intermediate plate into a position of parallelism with the base plate, the intermediate plate 1 having a clearance opening for said post, and a latch plate having a pivotal connec- &
tion with the intermediate plate at the opposite end and provided with latching means engaging the post when the three plates are in parallelism.
3. A device for the purpose indicated comprising a base plate provided with an intermediately positioned post, an intermediate plate pivotally connected at one end to the base plate and provided with a clearance opening for said post, and a latch plate having a pivotal connection with the intermediate plate and provided with latching means for engaging said post when the plates are disposed in parallelism.
A device for the purpose indicated comprising a base plate provided with an interinediately positioned post, an intermediate plate pivotally connected at one end to the base plate and provided with a clearance opening for the post, and a latch plate having a pivotal connection with the intermediate plate and provided with spring jaws for engaging said post when the plates are in parallelism.
' 5. A device for the purpose indicated comprising a base plate provided with an intermediately positioned post, an intermediate plate pivetally connected at one end to the base plate and provided with a clearance opening for said post, and a latch plate having a pivotal connection with the intermediate plate and provided with spring jaws for engaging said post when t e plates are in parallelism, said jaws being provided with extended crossing terminals for en gagement between the fingers to separate the jaws to release the same from the post.
In testimony whereof he atiixes his signature.
JO BECFER.
