SUSPENDERS.
APPLICATION FILED APR.25, 191s.

COLUMBIA PLANOGRAPH 120.. WASHINGTON. n. c
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MICHELANGELO BONO, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SUSPENDERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Original application filed January 31, 1913, Serial No. 745,321. Divided and this application filed April 25,
Serial No. 763,559.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHELANGELO BONO, a citizen of Italy, residing at New York city, county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to suspenders of novel construction, which are adapted to be attached to trousers either by means of buttons, or by means of prongs that pierce the waist band.
The present application is a division of patent application filed by me January 31, 1913, under Serial No. 745,321.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a perspective view of suspenders embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a detail of a slitted tab together with the back plate of the sup plementary suspending means; Fig. 3 a longitudinal section thereof showing the supplemental suspending means complete; Fig. 4a detail of the latch, and Fig. 5 a cross section on line 55, Fig. 3.
The device consists essentially of shoulder strap 10 carrying front and rear tabs 11. For the purpose of securing the tabs to buttons on the trousers, they are provided with the usual slits 12. In addition thereto, each tab is furnished with supplemental means for securing the tab to the waistband of buttonless trousers. This means consists of a back plate or member 13 having a lower prong 14: adapted to be projected forwardly through slit 12 and an upper pivot 15 adapted to engage an aperture 16 formed in the tab some distance above the slit. The protruding headed end of pivot 15 is grasped by the upper bent and forked end 17 of a latch or front member 18, having a lower flange 19. By turning the latch sidewise on the pivot, prong 14 will be exposed through slit 12, so that it may be pricked through the waistband of the trousers, after which it is concealed by swinging latch 18 back (Fig. 3). Whenever the supplemental suspendin means is not required, latch 18 is slipped o pivot 15, whereby back plate 13 is liberated, so that it may also be readily removed by withdrawing its pivot 15 from aperture 16.
I claim:
Suspenders provided with a slitted and apertured tab, a rear plate having a lower prong that engages the tab-slit and an upper headed pivot that engages the tab-aperture, and a latch having an upper bent and slotted end that removably engages the headed pivot.
