To all'wkom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HENRY MoaoKER, Jr., Tnaononn THOMPSON, and O'rro HAM- MERMEISTER, all citizens of the United States, residing at Homewood and Harvey, respectively, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Brackets for Gas Ranges, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to improvements in brackets for gas ranges, and the improvement has special relation to a bracket for what is referred to in the trade as a high shelf for ranges, and also to certain component parts which cooperate with the bracket. Y i

The primary object of the present invention is the making of a bracket for range shelves which is adapted to be used for either a right hand or left hand oven range, bysimply turning the bracket end for end.

.'A further object of the present improvement is the construction of a brackethaving its horizontal and vertical sides of the same length and the'endof each side provided with a wing adapted to co-operate with the'vertical standard between the shelf and the cooking top.

In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a perspective .view. of our improved shelf showing it in operative relation with its co-operating pants.

, Referring now to the drawings showing the invention, 1 is the hi h top ran e shelf and 2 the cooking top ocated be ow the .shelf.

Extending between the outer inner corner of the shelf and the corresponding part of thecooking top 2, is a supporting standard at 6, whereby the bent portion 6 extends across the right angle of the standard or support 3. The support proper, as will be noted, is made right angular in cross section and the bent part 6 extends toward the support is adapted to be used for either a right or left hand oven range by being turned end for end. That is to say the cutout parts 4 and 5, at its top and bottom, are exactly the same length, and the bent in portion 6 is located substantially midway between its topand bottom. Therefore, it will be observed that by turning this support end for end, it can be used for a left hand oven range,'as' well as for a right hand oven range, with which type of range it is shown in the accompanying drawings. Also the rear wall has near its opposite ends the curved cut out parts 10 and 11, whic'h are for the purpose of permitting the passage of the fuel pipe (not shown) for either a right or left hand range.

It will also be noted that the cut out portions 4 and 5, when the support is reversed, one of them is adapted to receive the bracket 12, and the other is adapted to reston the cooking top 2.

In the accompanying drawings, the bracket 12 has its top and rear edges 13 and. 14 formed laterally inward. This construction enables the laterally formed portions to be placed inside of. the flange 8 and inside of the cut out portion 4, as shown in the drawings. p

Additionally, this bracket is provided at its lower end and at its forward end with wings 15 and 16, the wing 15 adapted to fit against the bent in portion 6, and the wnig 16 extending inside of the flange 8.

The backing 24 is located between the bent part 6 and .rear wall 7 of the-support 3, as shown.

It will be observed that the deflected portions are substantially as much shorter as the length of the said wings. This enables the bracket to be fit on the support 3 with the lower end of the deflected portion sub santially resting on the upper end of the bent-in part 6. Both ends being cut on; the same distance the bracket is reversible in the manner herein described, whereby it is adapted to be used for either a right or left hand range.

V For the purpose of giving a finished appearance to the bracket, the edge is turned inward, as shown at 25, thus giving the bracket a finished appearance as well as adding strength. and rigidity thereto.

We do "tint desire to limit ourselves to the precise construction, since it may be varied so long as it is within the scope and spirit of the appended claims.

Having thus described our invention,

what we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent-is: 1

1. A bracket arrangement for ranges comprising a shelf, a reversible bracket provided at its upper edge with a deflected portion adapted to fit alongside of the shelf.

2. A bracket arrangement for ranges, comprising a shelf, a vertical su port, and a bracket having its edges deflected and fitting inside of the shelf and the support.

3. A bracket arrangement for ranges, comprising a shelf having a downwardly bent edge, a support having its upper end connected to the inner part of the shelf, of a bracket having deflected edges of substantially the same length' fitting respectively within the flange and the vertical part of the support, said flange, support and bracket-having registering openings to receive clamping bolts.

4. A bracket arrangement for ranges, comprising a shelf, a vertical support, a bracket provided at both ends with inturned wings co-operating with the support and the shelf,

A bracket. arrangement for ranges, comprising a shelf having a downwardly turned edge, a vertical supp'ort, a bracket having cut out portions su stantially the length of the cut out part of the support, said support and downwardly extending flange of the shelf and the bracket having registering openings for receiving clamping bolts.

A bracket arrangement for ranges, comprising a shelf, a vertical support, and a bracket provided at both ends with laterally deflected wings adapted to co-operate with the support and the shelf.

10. A bracket arrangement for ranges,

comprising a shelf having a flange, a vertical support, a bracket having a deflected edge and at its ends deflected wings both of which co-act with the shelf flange and the support.

11. A reversible bracket com rising a shelf, a support for the shelf having a cutout portion, a bracket fittin between the cut-out portion and the shel whereb the same may be turned end for end an applied to either a right or left hand oven range.

12. A reversible support and bracket for ranges, comprising a sup ort .with cut-out portions at each end, a s ielf at the up er end of the support and a bracket fitting between the cut-out portion of the support and the said shelf, wherebythe bracket and the support may be used for right or left hand oven ranges by turning them end for end.
