CYLINDER LOCK.
Application iled February 6,1923. Serial No. 617,362.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN B. FRnYsINGnR, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Stamford, in the county of Fairfield and State of "Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cylinder Locks; and I -do hereby declare the follow;- ing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
rIhis invention relates to improvements in of fastening means entering the wall of the cylinder.
lith this and o-ther objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings- Figure 1 is a sectional view of a lock structure embodying my improvements.

Figure 4t is a front end view of the latter.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 1, a lock cylinder is represented at 1 and the plug or barrel at 2. A hardened metal armor shell (preferably hardened steel) surrounds the cylinder 1 from one end to end as shown at 3 and closely contacts with the exterior face of said cylinder. A hardened metal armor plate 4 is disposed in front of the cylinder 1 and an armor plate or disk 5 isrevolubly mounted in an opening 6 in the plate 4 so as to be disposed in front of the plug 2 of the lock and this plate or disk 5 is providedi with a key slot 7 to align with the key slot of the plug.
The plate or disk 5 is held in place by the plate 4 and the latter is secured in position by the annular, inwardly projecting flange or portion 8 at the front end of the armor shell 3. rl`his annular flange may be formed by crimping or spinning the front end of the armor shell over the peripheral portion of the plate Ll and said shell is r-igidly secured to the cylinder by crimping or spinning its rear end portion over the rear end portion of the cylinder, thusv forming an inwardly projecting flange or part 9at the rear end of the shell to engage the rear end of the cylinder.
In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figure 3, the armor shell 3 and the armor plate da which is disposed in front of the cylinder are made integral with each other, and the rear end of the shell is crimped or spun to fo-rm an inwardly projecting flange 10 engaging the rear end of the cylinder.
In both forms of the invention, the rear end portion of the armor shell may be left unhardened in order to facilitate its crimping or spinning to form the inwardly projecting flanges which engage the rear ends of the cylinders. In the construction shown in Figure 1, the flange 8 at the forward end of the shell would preferably be formed before hardening and afterwards hardened.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is:
1. The combination with a lock cylinder, of hardened metal armor means surrounding said cylinder and including a part in front of the cylinder, and means clamping the armor means to the cylinder at both ends thereof.
2. The combination with a cylinder lock o-f hardened armor for said lock, said armor comprising a hardened shell surrounding the cylinder lock from end to end thereof, and a hardened member in front of said lock and rigid relatively to said hardened shell, said hardened shell being provided at its rear end with an inward proj ectionengaging the rear end of the lock,
3. The combina-tion with a lock cylinder, of hardened steel'armor therefor, said armor comprising a hardened steel shell surrounding the cylinder from end to end `and having an inwardly projecting annular end portion engaging' the rear end of the cylinder, said armor also including a hardened metal inemloer in front of the cylinder, the front end of the armor shell having an inwardly proj eating annular part engaging the rim portion of the hardened metal armor member.
