NEWARK stood that any changes may ROBERT H. LANGFORD, OF SPR-NGFELD,
TENNESSEE.
SHIPPING DEVCE.
Application filed January 12, 1921.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, Ronnn'r H. LaNcroRn, a citizen the `Unlted States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Robertson and State of Tennessee, have invented certain new and useful Devices, fication.
My invention relates to improvements in shipping devices which, while capable of use for many purposes, is particularly constructed for shipping packages containing rolls of iilm employed in moving picture projectors or machines.
@ne object of my invention is the provision of a shipping device which will positively protect therilm containers and which will insure the package reaching its destination, as well as its safe return from the place ot shipment.
Another object of my invention is the provision ot a shipping device which will permit of the instant insertion oit the card bearing the address to which the package is destined and also the instant change to the card-bearing the return address, such device protecting the address card to prevent improvements in Shipping ot' which vthe following is a specitampering with the card or with the con-' tents ot the container.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a shipping device which will prevent access to the contents of the container and at the same time protect the address bearing element and which improvements will be oit such simple, inexpensive and prac tical construction as to make the device highly desirable and efficient in every particular.
With the attainment of the objects stated in view, the invention consists of a con` tainer having a cover capable of being locked and means mounted in the cover and protected when said cover is locked to prevent'access either to the said means which carry the forwarding and return address element.
The invention further consist-s of a shipping device embodying novel features ot' construction and combination ot parts substantially as shown, described and particularly detined by the claims, itv being underbe made in the construction wihch come within the scope of the claims. Y
In order that the detail construction and the operation of my invention may be fully understood and its many points of advantage Specification of Letters Eatent.
iljatented July 4, 1922. sei-iai No. 436,704.
and features of merit be appreciated, I have shown in the accompanying` drawing a struc ture embodying my invention, and yin said drawing:
Figure l represents a perspective view olf a film carrying` container equipped with `my address or shipping device.
Fig. 2 represents a sectional view on the line 2 2 of F ig. 3, the view being on an enlarged scale.
F ig. 3 represents a bottom plan view of the address carrying receiver or case, and
F ig. il represents a top plan view of th address card carrying element.
Referring by numeral to the drawings, in which similar numerals of reference denote like parts in all the views:
The numeral l designates the carrier or container adapted to receive the packages containing the rolls of film, which container is provided with a cover 2 having a latch 3 secured by a suitable lock upon the hasp 4, the cover being provided with an opening 5 surrounded by a plate 6 acting as a retainer for the window or transparent covering 7.
Below the said window 7 and sight opening 6, is secured the box or casing 8 having struck up therefrom the clip or keeper 9, which serves to retain the spring l0 having at one end the latch or engaging' portion ll, said engaging or latch portion 1l serving to hold the slide l2, which fits in the casing 8, said slide having a finger loop 13 for the purpose of inserting and withdrawing the slide. The slide is formed in its upper face with a pocket or recess 14, forming a receptacle for the address cards 15, such cards bearing upon one face the address to which the container is shipped and upon its other face the return address or the address to which the container is to be returned.
The slidel may have the pocket or recess of any desired depth to accommodate any number of cards bearing addresses, and to retain the cards in place a spring clip 16 is employed, which bears upon one end of the cards and retains them in proper place.
The manner of using my invention is so obviously apparent from the description and drawings, that it seems unnecessary to elaborate upon the matter, but it must be at once apparent that the device insures the forwarding and return of the container; that the locking of the container protects its contents as well as the address-carrying elenient; and that the improvement adds practically nothing to the costv of the container, While greatly increasing its eiiiciency, desirability and practicaloility.
I claim:
l. A shipping device ofthe character 'dei scribed, consisting Vof a container, a cover lior said container having a sight opening securing the slide in place.
2. A shipping device of the-'character described, consisting of a container, a cover for said container Ahaving a sight opening and locking means, a Window protecting said sight opening, a plate on the upper part of the cover surrounding said'opening and retaining the Window in place, a casing secured loeloivsaid Window, a slide mounted in said casing and' having a pocket to carry address cards, and means in the casing Jfor securing the slide in place, consisting of Yal catch mounted in the casing and engaging the said address carrying element. Y
In testimonyivhereof I 'atix my signature.
