Be it known that I, EMIL O. RAUSGHEN- Banda citizen of the United States, residing at Wheeling, in the county of Ohio and purpose of enclosing piles of sheet plate to be annealed. The sheet plate is piled upon a cast iron truck, the annealing box placed over the piled sheets and then sand or cla-y is laid around the bottom of the box making a tight seal, or the c ast iron truck mayhave sand placed on it, the plates then piled on the truck, andthe box placed overthe piled sheets the lowerl edge of thebox embedding itself in the sand or clay. From the foregoing it will be understood that an annealing box is subjected to heat from the outside, the heat being conveyed to the plates to be annealed. It therefore follows that in constructing a box to withstand the action of the heat that it must be properly braced so as to prevent it from falling, and atthe same time capable of expansion and contraction.
One object of my present invention is to provide an annealing box having long corrugations which are separated by a straightv wall, whereby the straightl portion between the corrugations brace the wall of the box and prevent it from fallingfin under the action of the external heat, the straight portion acting as a stiliening member between the corrugations.
A further object of the my present invention is to make the corrugations deeper at the center of the top of the box whereby additional stiffness is added to the top of the box which prevents it from falling in under the action of external heat.
A further object of my present invention is to provide a box having a vertical corrugation in each end which begins at near the bottom of the box and extends upward merging in the top of the box, whereby the ends are stiffened by the corrugation, and the straight portion at each side of the corrugav tion, and will be prevented from falling in.
A further object of my present invention 1s to provide a cast box having its corners rounded, whereby the rounded portions will l act as a stiflening for the box, together with the intermediate vertical corrugation in the ends of the box, and with the corrugation in the sides and top of the box, there remaining- .a stiffening straight portion between the last said corrugation and the corners of the box.
Other objects of the invention will hereinafter appear from the description and disclosure.

My improved box is composed of cast metal and as shown the thickness of the metal is uniform throughout with the exception of a rib at the bottom. One improvement of my present invention is in providing the box with a plurality of long corrugations l which are separated by straight intermediate portions 2. Thiese corrugations 1 begin at an internal rib 3 at the bottom of the box and extend upward and over the top as shown. Attention is directed to the fact that the corrugation where it extends across the top of the box is made gradually deeper so that at the center point 4 of the top it is considerably deeper than at any other point. This will provide the center of the top of the corrugation with additional stiffness to prevent the top itself from caving in from its own weight, thus providing a stiffening for the box in places where it is highly needed.
The rib 3 extends around the inner side of the box where it is not subjected to external heat and it provides improvements for sustaining the weight Of the Whole box preventy ing it from falling down as it might do under the externalheat sincethekweight or' the whole'box is upon its lower edge. f
