ATTACHMENT FOB. JACK S.
Application filed January 25, 1922. SerialNo. 531,692.
To all err/mm it may concern:
Beit known that I, Srnvn A. IRWIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bobinson, in the county of Crawford and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Jacks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to an improvement in jacks, and more structure thereof.
The object of the invention i-sthe con struction of a simple and eiiicient attachment, whereby a single, handle may be placed in two positions, or two handles used upon the jack, for facilitating the operation of the same. i I
With this and other objects in view, my invention comprises certain novel combinations, constructions and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out inthe appended claim.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 isa view, in side elevation, of a jackwith my attachmentapplied thereto.
Figure Qis an enlarged-view of'my attachment shown partly in section and partly in elevation. c
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates the jack, 2 the handle, and 3 the attachment whereby the handle is ap plied to the jack.
The attachment comprises a main portion L having at its outer end a handle'receiving socket 5, and extending at about forty-five degrees from the longitudinal axis of portion 4; and socket 5, is an auxiliary socketport-ion 6 in which the handle-receiving socket 7 is formed. The primary socketportion, in which socket 5 'is formed and the auxiliary socket-portion 6, are connected by an integral brace 8; the brace 8 being particularly to the handle formed upon the socket-portions intermediate thelr ends, the socket-portions being 111- tegrally connected at their inner ends. An
upper integral stop 9 is formed upon the. main portion a and engages the jack 1 when the attachment is in its highest position ou the jack, whereas, the lower stop 10 engages the jackwhen the attachment is in its lowest position, caused byswinging the handle'2 downwardly.
My attachment is to be used in all jacks where leverage power isemployed to setup and take down joints. My attachment is particularly adapted to Barrettsjacks and all other jacks operated bya hand-lever, to permit the use of two handles on any and a i such jacks. V
lVhile I hav'edescribed the preferred embodiment of my invention, xand have illu'ss trated the samein the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates,'-during the extensive manufacture of the same and I,therefore, reserve the right tomake such alterations orchangesas shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What claim is: As anew article of manufacture, a handle carrying attachment for jacks formed asa single casting and comprising a main section having an elongated solid shank and a handle receiving socket exten ding froin one end of said shankyan auxiliary handle re-' ceiving socket extendingfrom the main section adjacent thev inner-end of the socket ofthe main section at an angle for extend ing upwardly when the deviceis 'in' use, a brace bar extending between said sockets,
and jack engaging abutments extending 'from the upper and lower sides of said shank.
" In testimonywhereof I hereunto afiiX: my
signature.
STEVE A. IRWIN.
