sisting of 1 sheet in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved foot pump.
Fig. 2 is a. vertical longitudinal sectional view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken substantially in line 3-3, Fig. 1.
Fig. 1 is a detail view of the pump piston and its operating connections.
Like reference numerals refer to like parts in the several views.
In general terms my pump comprises a cylinder having a piston seated therein and adapted to be reciprocated by the operation of a treadle or foot lever which is forced down by the foot of the operator and is automatically returned to a normal elevated position by a spring or other automatic means.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1, represents a pair of side frame members to which are secured by bolts or any other desirable means two blocks 2 formed so as to provide an aperture in which is snugly seated the pump cylinder 3. A piston fl 1s adapted to reciprocate in said cylinder in a well known manner'for forcing air through the tube or nozzle 5 to the tire or other article to be inflated. The piston rod 6 is the central rod of a trident shapedmember having two outer rods 7 as shown in Flg. 4. Each of the rods 7 is connected at its free end to a respective block 8 working in alongitudinal aperture or track 9 formed in a respective one of the side frames 1.
A. U-shaped treadle or foot operated member 10 provided with a stiffening rod 11 has its side arms each connected with a respective one of said sliding blocks 8. A pair of llnks 12 are secured to the side members 1 upon respective sides of the pump and have the other ends pivotally secured to respective sides of the Ill-shaped member 10. Springs 13 are seated in the apertures 9 be tween the end wall thereof and the respective block 8. J
The operation of this device is as follows: The foot is placed on the free endof the member 10 and this member is then forced down. The connection of the member 10- with the links 12 causes the member to swing forwardly or to theright in Fig.1 to the dotted line position therein shown, carrying with it the sliding blocks 8 which in turn draw with them the rods 7 and thereby operate the piston rod 6 to force the piston toward the front end of the cylinder thereby ejecting the air through the nozzle 5..
While I have described what I deem to be the most desirable embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that various details are susceptible of change without in any way departing from the spirit of my invention; and I therefore do not wish to be considered as limiting myself to the exact detailsof the embodiment herein shown and described nor to anything less than the whole of my invention as herein set forth and as hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims.
And now having described my invention 1 what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is -o 4 a 1. In a device of'the class described, the combination of a cylinder, a tribrachial memher, a piston headsecured to the one of the branches of said member, a main frame for supporting said cylinder, and slides secured to each of the other branches of said memher, and mounted in apertures formed in said frame.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of a cylinder,'a tribrachial meniber, a piston head secured to the one of the branches of said member, a main frame for supporting said cylinder, slides secured to each of the other branches of said member, and mounted in apertures formed in said frame, and operating mechanism for operating said slides.
3. In a device of the class described,- the combination of a cylinder, a tribrachial member, a piston head secured to the one of the branches of said member, a main frame 5' for supporting said cylinder, slides secured to each of the other branches of said member, and mounted in apertures formed in said frame, operating mechanism for operating said slides, and means for returningsaid slides to normal position. 7
In testimony whereof Ihave affixed my signature. '7 a GEORGE J.,FLEURE.
