PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. MICHEL, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
MATCH-BOX.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 11,}919. 'SerialNo. 329,939.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. MICHEL,
a citizen of the United States. residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented new and useful Improvements in Match-Boxes, of which the following i a specification.
This invention relates to an attachment for match boxes and similar boxes and the principal object of the invention is to provide means for preventing the drawer part of the box being entirely removed from the cover part and thus prevent spilling of the matches.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be removed from one box when the same becomes empty and applied to a full box.
The invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In desc 'ibing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying withdrawn from the cover part so that the matches will be spilled from the box.
It is the object of my invention to prevent this entire withdrawal of the drawer part from the cover part while not interfering with the opening of the box to secure matches therefrom.
In carrying out my invention I provide suitable material which has one end bentv over as at L to grip the edge of the cover part at one end thereof. The other end of the clip is provided with an enlargement 5 and this enlargement carries a sharp point 6 which may be suitably connected to or formed with said clip.
In applying the clip to the box the bent end of the clip is placed in engagement with the edge at one-end of the cover and then the enlargement is pressed upon to drive the point through the cover so that said point will project into the drawer. Thus when the drawer is opened from either end one end thereof will strike the point and thus further movement of the drawer is prevented so that the drawer can only be partly opened. and thus there is but little danger of spilling the matches. The drawer is opened sufiiciently, however, to permit the easy removal of the matches. After the box has become empty the clip may be easily removed therefrom and placed on a full box.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is An attachment for match boxes comprising a strip having a hook at one end for engaging the end edge of the cover of the box and a pointed projection adjacent the other end, extending at right angles to the body of the strip and adapted to be forced through the cover to engage the end pieces of the drawer.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
