Be it known that-I, G. F. Kunow SKI, a subject of the Emperon of Ger.- many or a citizen of Germany, but having taken out preliminary-United States naturalization papers, residing. in Brooklyn borough, in the county of Kings, city: and Stateof New York, have invented; certain new and useful; Improvementsin. Typewriting-Machines, of which the. following is a specification.
This invention relates to key-tops, and more especially to key tops oftypewriter keys. Such key-tops include a paper on whichis printed thedesignation of'the-type or types controlled by-theparticular-key and a glass cover serving to protect-the aper. In some instances, itmay bedesira le to change the type papers so: as to substitute others bearing diflerent characters, or to substitute blanks. This: invention, there. fore, has for-anobjeot such improvement-inthe construction ofa key-top that the-key paper thereof may be changed by an operative who-isunskilled in mechanics by anextremely simple; manipulation.
A feature of the invent-ion resides in the provisionofga key-cuphaving a, slot therein of sufiicient extent to permit the ready, in-
sertion and withdrawal of. the -keyrpaper,
and preferably in the particular embodiment of the invention shown, this slot is normally closed by a flexible and resilient member carried by the key-ring. Prefer ably, also, the ke -ring is made of springmetal, so that w en the resilient member thereof is moved to position to prevent withdrawal of the key-paper, said member will immediately return to normal position when released. The key-rin has a cut-away portion or slot which coincides with the slot in the key-cup, the resilient member closing both slots when in normal position.

In. order-toretain the key-paper and glass in position.withinthe key cup, and alsoto assistin theretentionoff the key-rin on the key-cup, the key-ri'ng is provided with a member 10, which, when bent-up from. the position shown in: Fig. 2 tothe position shown in Fig. 5, will'lieunderneath thecup and engage-'thebottom thereoff Said member'lo'hasja 1ip-11,1which, when bent up to the sitionishown in Figsrl, 3 and 4, serves to; e ose-the-slots'in the ring and cup, and
thereby retain the key-paper and glass in tirel within the key-cup, as shown in Fig.
4, t e resilient member l0 automatically moves to position so that the lip 11 closes the slots in the cup and the ring, and also by reason of the engagement with the bottom of the key-cup serves to hold the keyring in place.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the im rovements may be used without others.

claim: 1. A key-top comprising a key-cup for retainin'g' a key-paper, said cup having a slot for the insertion and withdrawal of the key;
carried by said key-ring for closing said slot. p
3. A typewriter key-top comprising a keycup and a key-ring, said key-cup having a slot therein, said key-ring being formed of spring-metal, and having a'resilient member formed as a part thereof for closing said slot.
4. In a typewriter key-top comprising; in combination, a key-cup for retaining agkeypaper, a key-ring surmounting said key-cup; and'resilient means acting to retain said key-ring in position on the key-cup and to retain the key-paper within the key cnp;

A key-top comprising a key cup .ior retaining a key-paper, said cup having a slot for the insertion and withdrawal of the keypaper, and a key-ring snrmo'unting said cup and carrying resilient means to close said sl'ot, said means being movable to release said ring.
