UNDERGARMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, RUrUs S. SHIRLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Crete, in the county of Saline and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which'the following is a specification.

This invention relates to undergarments, especially open crotch undergarments such as union suits, drawers and the like, the object of the invention being to provide an improved garment of this kind embodying means to securely and effectually close the crotch.

Vith the above and further objects in view the invention consists in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of the garment constructed and arranged in accordance with my invention and showing the crotch closed.

Fig. 2- is a rear elevation of the same also showing the crotch closed.

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the same, with the crotch open.

Fig. a is a transverse sectional view of the same on the plane indicated by the lines l--l of Fig. l.

The invention is here shown as embodied in a union suit, but it may however, be embodied in drawers. In accordance with my invention the garment is provided at 0pposite sides of the crotch with an outer flap l and an inner flap 2 which are adapted to be arranged in overlapping relation and to extend across and to close the crotch from opposite sides. Each of the flaps is approximately segmental in form. The flaps are here shown as formed separately from the garment and are stitched thereto as at 3, but within the scope of the invention the flap may be formed integrally with the garment, if preferred.

The outer flap is provided at its free edge with a tab 4 which has a button hole, and is adapted to be engaged with the button 5 on the rear side of the garment, to close Specification of Letters Patent.

and hold the corresponding portion of said outer flap. Near its upper end and on the front side the outer fiap is provided with a button hole 6 which may be engaged by a button to secure the same in closed position.

The inner flap is provided at its free edge with a front tab 7 and a rear tab 8. The said tabs, when the inner flap is arranged across and to close the crotch, respectively pass through slits 9 with which the garment is formed in its front and rear sides and said tabs are secured in place to hold the flaps 2 in closed position, by means of buttons 11 and 12, as shown.

The flaps thus constructed and arranged serve to effectually close and fasten the crotch from opposite sides and make the garment extremely serviceable and comfortable to the wearer.

While I have herein shown and described a preferred form of my invention, I would have it understood that changes may be made in the form and proportion of the parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and within the scope of the appended claim.

Having thus described my invention what I claim is An open crotch garment including oppositely arranged flaps connected thereto at opposite sides of the crotch, the flaps being arranged in pairs at the front and rear of the garment, the front and rear flap of each pair connected together at the crotch, the corresponding front flap of the respective pairs being adapted to be arranged in overlapped relation as are also the corresponding flaps at the rear of the garment, said flaps being substantially of segmental form, the the outer flap of the respective front and rear flaps having a centrally arranged fastening tab at their free edges, and the remaining flap of each pair having front and rear fastening tabs at their free edges and spaced apart, said garment having slits near one side of the crotch and through which the fastening tabs are passed.
