GEORGE POTSTADA, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
HINGE!) CLAMP.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Nov. 30, 1920.
Application filed October 4, 1919. Serial No. 328,473.
To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, GEORGE PoTsTADA, citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda, State of California, have invented a new and useful Hinged Clamp, of which thepfollowing is a specification in such full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in hinged clamps, and the object of the present invention is to provide a simple clamp that can he applied to a great variety of uses.
Another object of the invention is to provide means for holding articles firmly in any convenient position in relation to other articles.
These and other` objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which thek same reference numeralis applied to the same portion throughout, but I am aware that there may he modifications thereof.
' Figure 1 is a side elevation of this clamp as it appears secured to the edge of a table.
Fig. 2 is a sectional View ofthe clamp looking in the same direction as Fig. 1 and showing it attached to the side of a table.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the clamp showing it'applied to the table and looking at right angles to Figs. 1 and 2.
This clamp is shown applied to the base 1 of a lamp socket 2. The hase has its edges flanged as indicated at 3 to form a receptacle therein for the U-shaped clamp rod 4. rl`he rod 4 is pivotally mounted in two lugs 5 and 6 and a spiral spring T tends to hold the U- shaped rod tightly against the inside oi the base so that whenever the rod is pulled away from the base as indicated in figures of the drawing, it will tend to return to the base with sutlicient fori-e to hold the base l in any desired position. The lamp 8 is shown in the socket, but it will be clear that the base may be used for other purposes than that of holding a lamp.
lVhat l claim is as follows, but various modifications may be made in the eonstruetion shown in the drawings and above particularly described forni. within the purview oi my invention:
1. A clamp comprising a base having a flange to raise the hase `from its support, a U-shaped rod having one leg pivotally connected to the. base and a spiral spring` ior holding the rod normally within the plane of the iange. whereby objects eouneeted with the base may be .secu-red to a table or the like.
2. A flanged hase. a U-shaped rod havin; one leg pivotally mounted within the base and a spiral spring surrounding said leg of the rod arranged to normally hold the rod against the base within the plane ot the flange.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto set my hand this Q9 day oi September l). 1919.
GEORGE POTSTADA.
