COMBINED WRINGER AND WASH'IUIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 16, men.
Application filed August 17, 1918. Serial No. 250,386.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, KATHERINE M. LONG- WORTH, a subject of Great Britain, residing at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented. certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Nringers and Washtubs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to a combined wringer and wash tub and it is an object of the invention to provide a structure of this general character having novel and improved means whereby the wringer is secured to the wall of a wash tub and wherein said wringer is substantially horizontally disposed.
It is also an object of the invention to provide a novel and improved structure of this general type wherein the wringer is supported by a wall of the tub and in substantially a horizontal position, and wherein the rolls are positioned within the tub together with means extending exteriorily of the tub for operating the rolls.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved combined wringer and wash tub whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in top plan of a com bined wringer and wash tub constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention, the tub being in fragment and the lid or cover of the tub being removed, and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary view partly in vertical section and partly in elevation of the device as herein embodied, the lid or cover of the tub being shown in closed position.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings T denotes a wash tub of the stationary type having the rim portion of an end wall cut away or recessed as at 2 and which recess tially horizontally disposed and which is directed. through the recess 2 with the side members 4 of the wringer W contacting wlth the walls 3, and secured thereto through the medium of the screws 5 or their equivalent. The recess 2 is of a depth in excess of the members 4 so that no obstruction will be offered by'the wringer 7 to the lid or cover L when in closed position.
The side members 4: are provided with the longitudinally extended grooves 6 in which are arranged the bearings 7 for the rolls A and B. The shaft 8 of the roller A extends beyond the opposite sides of the wringer W and is rotatably supported by the front and rear walls of the tub T and has one end portion extending through and terminating outwardly of the front walls as indicated at a so that operating crank or the like may be suitably engaged with the shaft to effect the required rotation of the rollers.
9 denotes a pressure bar having its 0pposite end portions engaged in the grooves 6 and coacting with the roller B. 10 denotes a second pressure bar having its outward end portions slidably engaged with in the grooves 6 at a point inwardly of the bar 9 and interposed between the bars 9 and 10 is the spring 11 for constantly urging the rollers A and B one toward the other.
12 denotes a cross member connecting the outer ends of the side members 4 and disposed through said member 12 and coacting with the bar 10 are the screws 14 which operate and regulate the tension of the spring 11.
In practice the articles to be operated upon are fed bet-ween the rollers A and B from below and pass outwardly of the tub over the wringer' structure which serves as a table or apron for the work after leaving the rolls.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that combined wringer and wash tub constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to themecise arrangement and formation of the several parts herein shown in carrying out my invention in practice except as hereinafter claimed:
I claim:
In combination with a wash tub having a recess in the rim portion of a side wall, a wringer horizontally disposed and eX- tending through the recess and beyond opposite vsides of the wall, said wringer including side members, means for securing the central portion of the side members to signature in the presence of two witnesses.
KATHERINE M. LONGWORT H.

JOHN A. MC-LAUGHLIN,' HUGH I MCLAUGHLIN.
