Description

K. M. LONGWORTH.
WRINGER.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 8, I920.

T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, KATHERINE M. Lorrawon'rI-r, a sub eCt of Great Britain, residing,
at Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and Stateof New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements id ringers, of whichthefollowing is a specification, reference beinghad to the accome panying drawings. I i A This invention relates to certain improvementsiin clothes wringers, and it is an ob ject of the invention to provide novel and improved means whereby the wringer may,
be readily supported "working position upon the wall of a tub and whereby the wringer may be readily swung into an in operative position at either side of such wall.
Another object of the inventon is to provide novel and improved means whereby a wringer of a conventional type may be supported in working position upon the upper edge of a wall of a tub and wherein said means constitute hinged structures, permitting the wringer to be swung downwardly to opposite sides of said wall.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved device whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully'set forth.
The novel features of my invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed. 7
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation, illustrating a wringer constructed in accordance with an embodiment of my invention and in applied position, the coacting portion of a tub being shown in fragment;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 22 of Fig.1; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the wringer in a lower or inoperative position.
As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, T-denotes a wash tub of a stationary type and upon the upper edge of which is working position, the wringer W of a conwnrnenn. F

, ventional type The lower end portions each of the side members or uprights l of? the wringer Whave securedtothe front and rear-faces thereof thehinged sections or leaves 2 having the knuckles 3-tliereof ontmost." Pivotally engages In ,practicait is a-well known factgthat the side members or uprights of the conventional types of wringers are of a width in excess of the thickness of the walls of the stationary wash tub and each of the hinged sections or leaves 4 is of a length in accordance with the extent of projection of the lower end portion of an upright 1 when sub stantially vertically disposed upon the upper edge of the wall of the tub. By this arrangement, the hasp member 5 is permitted to have close contact throughoutits length with a face of the wall of the tub.
The wall of the tub has extended outwardly from each face a pair of horizontally alined staples 7 which extend through the openings or slots 6 of the hasp members when the wringer W is supported in working or vertical position upon the upper edge of said wall. Removable pins 8 are'rthen disposed through the portions of the staples 7 extending beyond the hasp members 5 whereby the wringer W is effectively supported in working position. When it is desired to swing the wringer W into an inoperative position or in a position to overlie a face of the wall of the tub, the pins Sat the opposite side of the wall are removed whereupon the wringer is free-to swing downwardly. This swinging of the wringer W into an inoperative position is of particular advantage when the tub T is provided with a cover and which cover is now generally employed.
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a device constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it may be assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification with the knuckles 8 of each of the members or leaves 2 1s. an intermediate and relatively short.
