Application filed llune 24, 1919.
To all wlw/n if muy oaf-cm:
lie it known that l. TVALLAci; A. (VozAR'r, a citizen of the llnited States. residinpr at Oklahoma city, in the county ot' Uklahorna and State ot' (iklahorna` have invented certain Improvements in 1WalkBrackets, of which the following is a specification. reference being had .to the accompanj'ingr draw ings.'
such, for example, as those used by jewelers, dentists, and others for supporting;r tools or other articles in convenient position for use.
An object ot the present invention is to provide a device ot this class which, when not in use, may be t'olded into position to swinpr flatly against a wall and thus occupy less room. j
Other objects and advantages o'f the invention will be set torth in the ensuing description. i
Figure 1 of the drawings is a plan View ot' the inrproved bracket attached to theI corner-post of a bed.
lfig. 2 is an elevation View of the parts shown in Fig, 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged reproduction, on larger scale and partly in section, ot the lett-hand portion of Fig. 2, with the addition of a knob and spring to a spindle.
ligf. t is an elevation view ot' the parts shown in Figi 3, but taken in the direction otl the arrow el and with a table folded into a vertical plane. i
lliike characters ot reference designate like parts in all the tipures.
rthe improved bracket includes a suitable clamp 5 adapted to attach to a suitable sup port. tor example to a corner-post t3 ot a bed. A
its shown in Figs. 1 and 2 this clamp 5 may include two jaws l and 9: which are drawn together b v screws il and adapted to ririnlv i ip the corner-post (i as a support later referred to.
tor parl ln arrainrinpv anV extensilile ,supporting1 arin ll) to be carri d lj he clamp ti, a number ot' pairs ot la L pivotalljv latticed together into what known a i lazy-ton connection; the lower end oli one ol ie bars ot the first pair hei" pivoted to a bearing i9 which is pivotid to L oit die clamp Specification of Letters Patent.
rll`he invention )ertains to wall brackets braces Patented Jolly ta MP2@ Serial No, 306,427.
the upper end 15 of the other bar ot said first pair is pivoted to a bearing 1G on the upper end of a staff 1T which is in turn arranged to revolve and slide vertically in said sleeve portion 1i. I
it the outer end of the extensible arm l() the lower end 1S ot' one of the bars 11 ot' the outer pair is pivoted to a bearingr 19 on the lower end of a sleeve 20, While the upper end 21 of the other bar of said pair is .pivoted to a bearingr 22 on the upper end of a staff 23 which is in turn arranged -to slide vertically in said sleeve.
lfor supporting a table 24e, an arm 25 extends out horizontally from the sleeve 20, and the table is provided With a depending` central pivotal spindle 2Gvwhich extends down revolubly through the tree end ot said arm and is provided With a knob 27 for purposes later shown.
rlhis spindle 26 has its upper end set firmly in the hub 28 ot' a plate 29 which is in turn secured to the under side of the table 24.
The spindle 2G is 'pivotally jointed near its upper end, as at 30, so that when raised upward in the arm 25 its upper end portion Y 2Gb Vmay swing over and rest in horizontal position on the top surface ot said arm and allow the table to stand in a vertical plane as shown in Fig. t.
rlhe upper end portion 26h of the spindle' 26 entends a little below the joint 30, as at 262 so that when swung1 to the horizontal position shown in L it may have a bearing across substantially the entire top surtaceoi3 the arro 25; and in order to hold` said portion down on said surface Without allowingv it to tip and tnlcrurn on the corner 31 ot said arno under the Weight ot the tahle 2lia compression helical springy 32 enith-e spindie between the lower surf the arrn and the knol) 27.
r.ll`he area 25 may loe provided with a thumb-hold so that in raising up the spindle p .nd the torce o' the sjiringl the the hand iv he employed.
e pivotal connection otn the entensihie f i l0 with the supporting; clanip ti allows taille 2% to be swansin a t f ary desired pos""ion `tor a bell and iAL 4front otj I:ith the grip ot against the wei "nt oi" the table 2t extensible character of the arm, allows the device to be adjusted to practically anyposition desired.
The following is claimed:
1 In a device of the character described, a table having :l depending spindle, :L supporting arm through which the spindle rev olubly passes, the spindle being movable vertically in the arm und being pivotally jointed near its4 upper end, and yieldable means acting to draw the lower portion of the spindle downward in the arm.
2. In a device of the character described, a table having a depending spindle, al supporting arln through which the spindle revolubly passes7 the spindle being movable vertically in the arm and being pivotully jointed near its upper end, n knob on the lower `end of the spindle, and a compression spring interposed between the knob und the arm.
Witness my hand this 5th day of June,
WALLACE A. COZART.
