mnmme s WILLIS DAVIS, 0F CONCORD, MASSACHUSETTS.
TRAY-SUPPORT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 9, 1918.
Application filed .Tune 21, 1916. Serial No. 104,982.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIS M. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concord, in the county of Middlesex, Stateof Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tray-Supports; and Ido hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains-tomake and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in'tray supports, and has for its object to provide a device of this character so constructed that it can be easily and quickly attached to one of the head posts of a bed so as to hold a tray in a convenient position for the occupant of the bed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character comprising a plurality of adjustably connected members, whereby the tray can be moved to different adjusted positions to suit the comfort of the person occupying the bed.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in. the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l is a side elevation showing the device attached to the post of a bed.
Fig. 2 is a top plan View of the device.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is a sectional View on line 44 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawing 1 indicates a clamp which is adapted to be engaged with one post of the bed, the jaws 2 thereof being provided with vertical sockets 3, said sockets being pivotally engaged by the pintle 4 carried by one end of the arm 5, the
other end of said arm being provided with sired to use the same for supporting a book or for any other purpose desired.
Pivotally connected to the rod 9 is a hook 11 which is adapted to detachably engage the eye 12 carried by the arm 5, and when engaged thus it is obvious that the tray 7 will be held at right angles to the arm 5, and as clearly shown in full lines in Fig. 2 of the drawing.
What is claimed is A device of the class described comprising a clamp having jaws provided with sockets, an arm having oppositely directed and vertically disposed pintles carried by its ends, one of said pintles being pivotally engaged. in said sockets whereby to connect said jaws, a rod having a socket at one end for receiving the other pintle whereby said rod will swing in a horizontal plane, a tray having clamps carried thereby for engaging said rod to permit of an adjustment of the tray about the same as a pivot, and means for connecting the arm and rod to hold the same in angular relation.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
NELLIE 'E. DAVIS, CARRIE BROOK.
