This invention relates to a combined window sash fastener and burglar alarm, and embodies a spring actuated hammer adapted to be released from its set position by the window when the latter is elevated a slight distance, the hammer operating to explode a blank cartridge or the like producing a loud report resembling that of a pistol. The chief characteristic of the invention resides in the provision of a stop member which co-acts with the trigger of the hammer to maintain said. trigger in position where it can be easily engaged with the hammer to hold the-latter set,'the stop sub sequently supporting the trigger after the release of the hammer, ina sash obstructing position to prohibit lifting of the sash.

Other objects and advantages will appear when the following detail description is taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination and arrangementof parts as claimed. i

In the drawings forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a front elevation of a fragmentary part of the window showing the hammer in a set position.

Referring to the drawing in detail, A indicates the window frame, the window sash being indicated at B.

The combined sash fastener and burglar alarm embodies an elongated plate 10 secured upon the window frame A in a manner shown, the plate being provided with spaced lugs 11 between which is pivotally' mounted a spring actuated hammer 12, the spring being indicated at 13. Pivoted upon the plate 10 at an appropriate distance above the lugs 11, is a trigger 14, which is in the nature of a plate having a right angularly disposed patching portion 15 through which the pivot16 extends. The trigger proper has a depending lip l7-Wl1lCh is adapted to engage the head of the hammer '12 to'hold the latter in a-set position as illustrated in Fig. 1. One end of the plate is notched as at 18, one of the separated portions defined by the notch'being bent substantially at a right angle to the trigger and in a direction opposite to the lip 17 to providea prong 20.

Pivoted upon the plate 10 above the trigger I is a stop constructed along lines somewhat similar to the trigger, and. including an at" taching portion 21 and a right angularly disposed portion 22. The latter mentioned portion has. one end fittedwithin the notch 18 of'the triggerv and c'ooperateswith the prongs 20 in holding the trigger in two pt sitions, first in the position whereby itcan be readily engaged with the head of the V hammer to hold the latter inia set position, andsecondly in the position illustrated by Fig.3 where it occupies a sash obstructing position subsequent to "the release ofthe hammer, to prevent further movement of the sash. The sash B maybe provided with a finger 23 or any other suitable projection to engage the trigger 14 when thesash has been elevated to a predeterminedldistanc to effect a release of the hammerin the manner to be presently described.

In practice, the hammer is engaged by the trigger member in the manner disclosed in Fig. 1, which illustrates the set position of the hammer; With the parts inthis position the sash B can be raised a slight distance and left open for ventilation. It of course depends upon where the detachment is placed upon the window casing as to how high the window can be raised for this pur-' pose. If, however, the sash B was elevated above a certain height, the projection or finger 23' would be engaged by the trigger 14 which is disposed in a sash obstructing position. When these parts are thrown into contact the trigger is moved upon its pivot a slight distance so as to release the hammer 12, whereupon the spring 13 functions to operate the hammer for the purpose of exploding the blank cartridge 24, thus producing a loud sound or report similar to that of arpistol. This would attempt to .scare the burglar or intruder away. However, in addition to this fact, the stop 22 limits the pivotal movement of the trigger 14 during 7 the parts are so disposed and related that the window sash is held against further up-' ward movement. The stop as will be apparent maintains the trigger 14 in a sash obstructing position, prohibiting the passage of the projection 23.

While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to havev it understood that I do not limit myself in this connection, and that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed. 7

Having thus described my claim: 7

1. A combined sash fastener and burglar alarm comprising a spring actuated hammer mounted upon the window frame, a normal horizontally disposed trigger pivoted upon theframe and designed to engage and hold said hammer in the set position, said trigger being adapted to be actuated bythe sash when the latter is lifted a slight distance to release the hammer and allow the latter to assume a substantially vertical position, and means for limiting the movement of said invention I trigger upon release of the hammer and to ma ntain the trigger in sash obstructing position for the purpose specified.

2. A combined sash fastenerand burglar alarm compri'singa spring actuated hammer mounted upon the windowframe, a trigger pivoted upon-the hammer and designed to engage and hold the latter in set position,

said trigger having a notch, a stop pivoted upon the window casing above the trigger and having'a portion received by said notch, whereby said-trigger is maintained'in a position whereby it canbe engaged by the combined sash fastener and burglar alarm comprising a spring actuated hammer 'mounted upon the wlndow frame, a trigger pivoted upon said frame and designed to engage and hold the hammer in said position, a projection carried by the window sash and adapted to engage and actuate said trigger when the sash is elevated, to

effect the release of said hammer, and means cooperating with said trigger to hold the latter in the path of movement of said projection to prohibit the further movement of said sash, subsequent to the release of'said hammer.

4. A combined window sash and burglar alarm comprising an elongated plate secured to a window casing, a projection carried by the adjacent rail of the sash, a spring hammer pivoted on said plate, a trlgger pivoted upon the plate above the pivot of said hammer, said trigger including a plate, lugs projecting from adjacent edges of the plate and extended in opposite directions,

one of said lugs being designed to engage the hammer and hold the latter. ina-set position in which position the trigger or plate is adapted to be engaged by the projec-- tion of the sashwhen the window is; elevated to release the hammer, a stop carried by the plate above the trigger, saidstop being arranged to engage other of said lugs to hold the trigger in the path of movement of said projection and subsequent to the release of the hammer' and thus prevent further movement of the window in an upward direction. a V
