HYGIENIC TOILET-SEAT oovnn.
' Specification of Letters'Patent.
Patented Apr. 3, 191% Application filed December 20, 1916. Serial No. 138,072.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARIE BLOCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hygienic Toilet-Seat Cover, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.-
'This invention relates to sanitary appliances for public places or the like and has particular reference to'hygienic covers for toilet seats'for the prevention of the spreading of infection or the like.
Among the objects therefore of the invention is the provision of a comparatively cheap but effective covering for a toilet seat adapted for general use, and while it is intended primarily for use in public places, its use is to be by no means so restricted, since it is adapted for private residences as well as elsewhere.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sanitary covering of the nature set forth of a construction adapting it to be automatically retained in place in use, and of such a size as to thoroughly protect the skirts or other garments.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter described and claimed, and while the invention is not restricted to the exact details of construction disclosed or suggested herein, still for the purpose of illustrating a practical embodiment thereof reference is bad to the accompanying drawings, in which like reference characters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view showing my invention in operative position, dot and dash lines being added to indicate the approximate dimensions of the covering;
Fig. 2 is a side elevation corresponding to Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a vertical transverse sectional detail on the line 33 of Fig. 2. 1
Referring now more particularly to the drawlngs, I show a conventional form of relatively cheap material indicated as a whole by the numeral 13.. I form this cover in such a manner by dies and pressure or other suitable means so as to provide an inner margin or zone 14 of a'gathered or fluted nature, projecting well into and around the edge of the seat opening 10. This part or zone 14 may be regarded for purposes of this description as a ruffle providing sufficient fullness so that there will be no splitting or rupture of anypart of the cover that comes between the person and the seat structure. Immediately surrounding the ruffle isa smooth flatportion or zone 15, which lies directly upon the smooth and more or less relatively flat. top portion of the seat structure.
Beyond the seat at the sides and in front is another flat smooth zone 16 which may haveconsiderable length in front to protect the skirts from the toilet, while the lateral portions droop naturally at the sides.
Between the two fiat or plane zones 15 and 16 is a second fluted zone 17 which'lies along the periphery of the seat and provides for the natural drooping or suspension of the skirt portion 16 down or around the toilet. The ruflle 14: and fluted zone 17 are formed in the manufacture of the device and when forngd as indicated, no special fastening means or care are required in applying the cover to the seat since it retains the position indicated automatically by virtue of the special formation of the ruflle and fluted portions, A rear flap 18 may be pro vided also to extend along the lid 12 as far as desired.
This device may be manufactured and put on the market at a low cost and may be provided either in bulk, vor each one may be folded and dispensed in a package or envelop through coincontrolled machines of standard construction. With respect to tho manner of dispensing the devices as well as the specific construction thereof, I do not wish to be unnecessarily limited.
I claim:
In a toilet seat cover of the character set forth, a single sheet of material having a hole therethrough, and rear, side and front extensions adapted to lie against the lid and adjacent to the sides and front of the toilet,
said sheet being provided with spaced conseat and serving to automatically position the same and hold it in place upon the seat, the sheet between the zone of ruflles being flat and smooth "and conforming to the smooth upper surface of the seat.
MARIE BLOCI-I.
