' cannons c. mrz, or vnmmnn, nnw mesa-Y; assrciaoa r sarroan rura arnomrrconrm, or vmnmn, NEW mnsmr. samaar nnmansr covim- Application fled October 29, 1928.' Serial No. 315,825.
This invention relates to a sanitary headrest cover and is a continuation in part of my application filed May 26, 1928, Serial Number 264,863.
The cover is particularly adapted for use in connection with the headrests of dental chairs, and has for its primar object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a
time and labor saving means for presenting a fresh headrest cover for each patient occupying a dental chair whereby sanitary protection is afforded the patientand whereby the headrest is prevented from becoming soiled. I
A further object of the invention is to provide a sanita headrestcover for the purpose aforesai d by means of which a fresh cover may be provided for each patient occupying a dental chair at less expense to the dentist than is possible with the type of covers generally used which require laundering.
A further object of the invention is to provide a sanitary headrcst cover for the purpose aforesaid which is adapted to cover both the top and sides of a headrest, and which is formed in a manner to normally assume a substantially flat position whereby the cover may be conveniently stored in comparatively large numbers, and in which the portion of the cover adapted to cover the sides of the headrest may be expanded when it is desired to place the cover in position, and whereby the inherent contractile characteristics of saidexpanded portion'are utilized for maintaining the cover in position,
With the foregoing and other objects in -view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arran ement of parts as hereinafter more speci cally described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of my invention, but it is tobe understood that changes, modifications and variations may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed. s
In the accompanying drawings in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same Figure 1 is a bottom plan of a cover constructed in accordance with showing, the cover in its normal position.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan of a cover, showing the skirt portion thereof in expanded position.
this invention,
- top wall 11 of an ad acent plait,
Figure 3 is a fragmentary section taken on line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 1,
Referrin to the drawin s in detail, the numeral 1 designates the body portion of in improved cover, which. in the embodiment i lustrated is circular in form, but which may be of any form desired to conform i contour with the headrest with which the ver is to be associated. Formed integrally with the body portion 1 is a skirt portion 2, which is formed throughout with a plurality of spaced plaits 3 extending lengthwise thereof.
The body portion 1 and skirt portion 2 are formed from a sin 1e piece of material which is bent upon itsel to provide said body and skirt portions, whereby a crease 4 is formed in the cover at the point of joinder of such portions. In the normal position of the cover, the skirt portion 2 lies flat against the lower surface of the body portion 1 and the free ends 5 of the glaits 3 are disposed circumferentially aroun the center of the body portion 1, as clearly illustrated in Figure 1.
Each of the plaits 3 is formed at its attached end with a relatively wide top wall 6 and a pair of relatively low side Walls 7 whereby a fiat appearance is imparted to such attached end portions; The side walls converge as indicated at 8 at their ends opposite to the crease 4 and merge into the side walls 9 of the free end portions of the plaits. The top wall 6 of each attached end portion is inclined as indicated at 10 at the end thereof opposite to the crease 4 and mer es into the top wall 11 of the free end ortlon of the plait. The side walls 9 are 0 materially greater height than theside walls 7 and the top wall 6 is of materially greater width than the top wall 11. With the cover in normal positiornthe side walls 9 converge toward their lower, longitudinal edges as illustrated in Figure 4, and with the cover in expanded position as illustrated in Figure 2, the side Walls 9 extend in parallel relation at right angles to the top wa l 11. With the cover 'in normal position as illustrated in Figures 1 and 4, one side wall 9 of each plait at the free end thereof slightly overlaps the thereby providing for the successive interengagement of all the plaits at the free ends 5 thereof.
When it is desired to position the cover on a headrest, the free ends 5 of the plaits are forced apart sufiiciently to permit the skirt portion 2 to be positioned upon the headrest to encircle the same. Due to the inherent characteristic of the plaits whereby they normally assume the position illustrated in Figure 4, a ressure is applied at the free ends 5 of the p aits towards the center of the body portion 1 whereby the headrest is gripped by the skirt portion 2 and the'cover is secured in osition.
t is thought that the many advantages of a headrest cover in accordance with this invention will be readily apparent and al though the preferred embodiment is as i1- lustrated and described, it is to be understood that any changes in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the a pended claims.
What claim is:
1. A headrest cover comprising, a flexible member bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a depending skirt portion extendin therearound, said skirt portion forme throughout with spaced plaits having the end portions thereof adjacent the bend between the body and skirt portions of less hei ht than the remaining portions of said plate whereby said skirt portion may normally lie flat against said body portion with out being folded upon itself.
2. A headrest cover comprising, a flexible member bent upon itself to provide a body portion and 9. depending skirt portion extending therearound, said skirt portion vformed throughout with spaced laits having the end portions thereof a jacent the bend between the body and skirt portions of less height than the remaining rtions of said plaits whereby said skirt portion may normally lie, fiat against said body portion without being folded upon itself, and each of said plaits havin the end portion thereof adjacentthe free edge of the skirt portion normally engaging an adjacent pla1t.
3. A headrest cover comprising, a flexible member bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a depending skirt portion extending therearound, said skirt portion formed throughout with spaced laits having the end portions thereof acli bend between said body and skirt portions of greater width than the remaining portions of said plaits whereby said skirt portion may normally lie fiat against said body portion without being folded upon itself,
4. A headrest cover comprismg, a" flexible member bent upon itself to provide a body portion and a depending skirt portion extendin therearound, said skirt portion forme throughout with spaced plaits, each having atop wall and a pair of side walls, the portion of the top wall adjacent the bend between said body and skirt portions being of greater width than the remaining portion of said top wall, the portions of the side walls adjacent said bend being of less height than the remaining rtions of said side walls whereby said skirt portion may normally lie fiat against said body portion without being folded upon itself. I
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature hereto. i 7
