SANITARY TOILET-$EAT COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 8, 191%.
Application filed November 3, 1913. Serial No. 798,852.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELLA LE Gone NICH- Ls, a citizen of the United States residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Toilet-Seat Covers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to sanitary toilet seat covers, and my principal object is to provide a simple, inexpensive device of this character which can be readily placed in position on a toilet or closet seat to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is adjustable to accommodate toilet seats of different sizes.
A further object is to provide a device of this character which can be folded into such shape as to render it easily dispensable from coin-controlled vending machines located in depots, hotels, and other public places.
In order that the invention may be fullyv understood, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a broken detail perspective view of the upper portion of the toilet with the seat thereof provided with one of my sanitary covers.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the toilet seat and cover on line 11-11 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical cross section on line III- H of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a detail plan view of the sanitary toilet seat cover.
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective of the sanitary toilet seat cover in the folded position it will occupy when delivered from a vending machine.
Fig. 6, is a fragmentary rear elevation of the seat cover showing the folded flap.
In carrying out the invention, I employ a sheet of paper or other suitable material 1, having an opening 2 and of approximately the contour of the ordinary toilet seat 3, it being understood that said cover 1 may be made in various shapes to fit different shaped toilet seats.
The front side of the inturned margin r has :1 depending shield 8. which extends down into the hopper 9 of the toilet, to prevent contact of the user therewith.
The central rear portion of the cover 1 is folded as disclosed at 10, so that said cover may be adjusted as indicated by the dotted lines, (Fig. l) to accommodate a larger toilet seat, and to constitute a flap which may be used in lieu of toilet paper if desired.
From the foregoing description. it is apparent that I have produced a simple. inexpensive cover which may be readily placed in position over a toilet seat and prevent the spread of disease by preventing the body from contacting said toilet seat.
Having thus described my invention. what I claim and desire to secure by Letters latent is:
A sanitary cover for toilet seats comprising-a ring-like body having a flap. said [lap and body being folded to provide an overlapping portion extending in a line radially of the latter to vary the size of the body and said tongue being further folded transtersely onto the body to constitute a lock for the overlapped portion of the latter.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
ELLA LE GORE NICHOLS.
