AP PLICATION FILED SEPT- 2], 19'7- 1,280,941. I Patented 0015.8,1918.
INVENTOR WITNESSES ATTORNEY K onnron.
OSCAR EDWARD H. ANGELL, 0F ALBANY, NEW YORK.
BUTTON.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. s, 1918.
7 Application filed September 27, 1917. Serial No. 193,545.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OSCAR E. H. ANGELL, a citizen of the United States, residin at Albany, in the county of Albany and tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buttons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to buttons and other fastening means for wearing apparel, and has for an object to provide a button having a flexible portion whereby the button may be detachably' secured to a garment,
and whereby the button may be removed from the garment previous to washing the same.
In addition to the foregoing, my invention comprehends improvements in the details of its construction and the arrangement of its correlated parts to be hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of reference throughout the several views in which they appear;
Figure 1 is a view in edge elevation of a button device constructed after the manner of my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view in section.
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig.
' 2, and
Fig. 4 is a face view of the device. With reference to the drawings, 1 indicates a button of the usual type provided with central openings 2 for the passage of securing threads. My improvement consists insecuring a disk 3 of soft rubber or other flexible material to the button by means of threads 4 or other means which is adapted to connect the central portions of the disk and the button. It is preferable that the disk and button be slightly spaced.
In the use of my device the edge of the garment which would ordinarily be the edge to which the buttons are sewed, is formedat suitable intervals with openings 5, and the devices are applied to said edge bydoubling or otherwise folding the disk 3 so as to permit its insertion through one of the openings. The disk when assuming its flattened slliape will securely retain the button in ace. the usual button holes in its mating edge may be closed after the usual fashion.
Thus it will be seen that I have provided a novel means for detachably securing a button to a garment, the device being particularly well adapted for use upon underwear, the permanent buttons of which are often broken during the treatment of the garments inv the laundry. Owing to the soft material composing the disk 3, the devices will not be uncomfortable when in contact with the body. Other advantages will be readily vice.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A button device comprising a button, a
apparent to the users of the de- The garment'being provided with disk of flexible material exceeding in diamegarment so as to dispose the disk on one side of the garment and the button on the other.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
OSCAR EDWARD H. ANGELIJ.
