ROY V. CREERY, OF RAGINE, WISCONSIN.
CYCLE RAIN-COAT AND COVER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 25, 1918.
Application filed February 26, 1917. Serial No. 151,065.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROY V. CREERY, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Racine, in the county of Racine and State of Wisconsin, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cycle Rain-Coats and Covers, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The invention relates to cycle rain coats and covers.
The invention is more particularly de signed to provide a garment which is detachably secured to a motor cycle or bicycle and to the operator which will not only protect the operator from inclement weather but the machine as well.
The invention further consists in the several features hereinafter set forth and more particularly defined by claims at the conclusion hereof.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of the coat and cover applied to a motor cycle;
Fig. 2 is a section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line 4-4: of Fig. 1.
The coat and cover consist of a one piece water-proof garment or cape 5 which covers the whole body of the operator, when in sitting position upon the cycle 6, said cover extending from the front forks 7 to a position over the rear wheel 3 and having depending side portions 9 extending down to a position adjacent the driving mechanism 10 of the machine and the control 11 thereof. The front portion of the cover fits over the handle bars of the cycle and the front forks, as shown in Fig. 3 and is detachably secured to said forks by bands .12 and 13 detachably secured together by a button or other fastening means 16. To permit the operator to readily don the garment it is provided with a weather proof side opening, the edges 14 and 15 of the garment forming this opening being detachably secured together by buttons 16 or other suitable fas tening means, a protector strip 17 stitched to one of the edgesalso being secured by said buttons. To permit the operator to unbutton the garment said garment is provided with a side opening 18 provided with a protector flap 19.-
To protect the neck and head of the operator the garment is provided with a high collar 20 adapted to be fastened around the neck of the operator by a suitable fastening 21.
To permit the operator to turn the handle bars for steering the cycle without interference from the garment each side of the garment is provided with a gore 22.
In use the garment is secured to the machine as heretofore described and buttoned over the operator and thus carried in proper position. \Vhen the operator gets out of the garment he may leave the same over the machine to protect it.
The invention thus exemplifies a cape for protecting the operator and the cycle from inclement weather and which may be readily applied to the machine and to the operator.
WVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. A wet weather garment for cyclists comprising a cape fitting over the operator and the body portion of the machine, and
having an openable side, means for detachably securing the openable side closed, and means for securing the cape to the machine, said openable side permitting the operator to get out of the garment without detaching it from the machine.
2. A Wet Weather garment for cyclists comprising a cape fitting over the operator and the body portion, handle bars, and upper part of the front fork of the machine, said cape having a side opening extending from the neck to the bottom edge, one edge of said opening having two flaps, the other edge of said opening fitting between said flaps, means for detachably securing said last named edge between the flaps, said cape also having a protected opening in the side adjacent the side opening to permit the operator to release said securing means, and means for detachably securing the cape to the machine, said side opening permitting the operator to get out of the garment without detaching it, from the machine.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature.
ROY V. CREERY.
