Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 13, 1914.
, Application filed June 25, 1912. Serial No. 705,692.
To all whom it may concern Be it knownthat I, SOLOMON DAVID GIL- nnnsox, of the city of Winnipeg, in the Province of Manitoba, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reinforcing and Shape-Keeping Cards for Clothes, of which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to a card insertible particularly within coats prior to the coats being placed in boxes for delivery purposes and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive and efficient device which will effectually prevent a coat from shifting within a box and becoming wrinkled or creased.
The invention presently disclosed is in reality an improvement on my United States Patent NO. 1021593 dated the 26th day of March, 1912, for a similar invention.
The invention consists essentially in the arrangement and construction of parts hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claim.
Figure 1 represents a plan view of the improved card. -Fig. 2 is a cross'sectional View of the card showing the tab bent to the position it occupies when used in a coat and coat box. Fig. 3 represents a side View of the card.
In making a number of cards from a.
single sheet of cardboard in the manner disclosed inthe hereinbefore mentioned patent I have found that there is considerable waste on account of the tab having to extend in each instance from the card. The present invention overcomes this diifioulty by cutting the tab actually out of the body of the card.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure, 1 represents a pasteboard or other suitable thin card cut to present a shape similar to the back of a coat it having four corners cut away to present edges 2, 3, 4: and 5 the edges 2 and 3 corresponding to the shoulder seam of the back of the coat while those 4: and 5 correspond to part of the side seam thereof. The sides 6 and 7 of the card intermediate between the edges 2, 4: and 3, 5 respectively correspond with what is called the back arms of the coat back. The body of the card is cut centrally at 8 to form a tab 9, the base 10 of which is more or less parallel with the upper edge 11 of the strip 12 formed at the top of the card.
When the article is used the tab is forced downwardly and turned beneath the narrow strip reserved at a at the top of the card. It is then turned upwardly at 9 into a position more or less at right angles to the body of the card and has the extremity 9 thereof finally turned downwardly at an angle to the portion 9. The tab is creased or perforated at c, FcZ and e-as indicated in dotted outline so that it will fold readily when desired and thus forming a hinge portion 10, an intermediate portion 9 and an end portion 9 It will be noted that when the tab is folded into Operative position (see Fig. 2) the outer edge of the strip 11 forms a stop or support for bracing the intermediate portion and limiting the movement thereof, thus preventing the portion 9 from becoming disengaged after having once been placed between the sides of the box as hereinafter mentioned. F urthermore, the portion 9 has the appearance of being an integral extension of the strip 11, thus giving a symmetrical and strong appearance to the card as a whole. It will be noted that the distance between the creases c and d is the same as the distance between the upper edge 11 of thecard and the crease 6. Thus by reason of the fact that the strip a at the top of the body is the same width as the hinged section'12, the tab is adapted to be readily folded in the manner above set forth.
The card is used in the same manner as the card described in the previous patent. The card receives the coat the sides 6 and 7 entering the arm holes thereof, the portion 9 passes upwardly through the collar of the coat while the portion 9 thereof is passed between the sides of the box. I am not enlarging on the manner in which the card is used as this is clearly described in my previous patent.
What I claim as my invention is A garment holding form comprising a main fiat body constructed to fit within a garment, and a tab cut from said body along three of its sides forming a narrow strip at the top of said body, the fourth side remaining integral with said strip and parallel with the top of the main body, said tab being scored transversely beneath its line of connection with said strip to form a hinge portion of approximately the same Width, Signed at Winnipeg, this 13 day of April, as said strip, and the free end of said top 1912.
being transversely creased whereby said tab may be bent under the main body, SOLOMON DAVID GILKERSON' thence upwardly at right angles thereto, and In the presence of thence outwardly to form a holding mem- G. S. ROXBURGH, ber for the main body. L. GOULD.
