DISPLAY OLDER;
Application filed September 27 1921'. Serial No. 503,492,
To allwhomitmayconcem; I a
Be it known that I, PRISEVAQ-ENGLE, a
citizen of the United States, residing at Carlos, in the county of Randolph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same;
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive display holder for vhandkerchiefs and similar articles for use on counters and show cases in dry goods establishments and the like as a means of attracting the attention of prospective customers or purchasers and to provide an efiicient means for household use as a holder or receptaclefor handkerchiefs, letters and similar articles, and with these objects in view the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawings where- Figure 1 is a view of a holder embodying the invention arranged for household use as a receptacle,
Figure 2 is a sectional view of the same, Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the holder is made, the manner in which the blank is folded and rolled to produce the holder being shown in dotted lines, and
Figure 4 is a view of the device arranged for use in commercial display.
The device consists of a cone constructed from a blank of paper or like flexible material and held in place by the clips or tacks 10. The cone is produced from a blank as indicated in Figure 3 having an oblong body portion 11 with the triangular corner flaps 12 and 13 at the lower edge upturned in contact with the outer surface of the blank and with the upper corner at one end turned down to form the flap 14 which is preferably gummed on its inner surface for attachment to the body portion of the blank. The fold lines of flaps 12 and 13 he in the plane of the base of the cone.
When the blank is rolled as indicated in Figures 1 and 2 to assume a conical form with the apex or point of the cone occupying a position indicated on Figure 3 at 16, there is provided a substantially flat base for/ effectively supporting the device in properposition for the display of the handkerchief or other article for which it is designed, when used commercially as indicated in Figure 4.
In shaping the device from the blank, edge portion 17 is first turned or folded against the body portion 11 and thereupon the flaps 12, 13 and 14 are folded against the same face of said body portion 11. With such flaps outermost, body portion 11 is curled or shaped into a cone by moving the end edges of the body portion toward each other. By such movement, flap 12 moves across and beyond the flap 14, after which said flap 12 is moved to a limited extent in the opposite direction, so as to assume a position between or interlocked with flaps 13 and 14. The ends of the blank are prevented from separating by abutment of one edge of the flap 12 with the fold line of body 11 and flap 14;
IVhen employed as a houshold receptacle, for attachment to a wall, door casing or other vertical surface as shown in Figure 1, the holder is inverted to form a pocket and may be held in shape by the tacks 10 which particularly pass through the flaps 12, 13 and 14 and secure the device to the support.
In both uses the turned or foldededge 17, at one edge of the blank constitutes a reinforcement which may also be decorated to provide an ornamental border.
IVhat is claimed is 1. A display holder of conical form consisting of a blank of flexible material having its corners at one edge folded outwardly to form triangular flaps of which the fold lines he in the plane of the base of the cone.
2. A display holder of conical form consisting of a blank of flexible material having its corners at one edge folded outwardly to form triangular flaps of which the fold lines lie in the plane of the base of the cone and with one of its upper corners folded outwardly to constitute a flap extending from base to apex of the cone.
3. A display holder of conical form consisting of a blank of flexible material having its corners at one edge folded outwardly to form triangular flaps of which the fold lines he in the plane of the base of the cone, that edge of the blank which constitutes the base being folded outwardly to form a reinforcement.
4. A display holder substantially of coniv cal form consisting of a blank of flexible material having its" cornersi at one. edge folded to form substantially triangular flaps of which the fold lines lie in the plane of the base of the cone.
5. A display holder made from a blank, the blank adjacent corners at opposite edges thereof having first and second flaps folded against the same, the blank at oneof said edges having a flap folded over the first flap and at an angle thereto, and the second flap. being disposed intermediate the first and third mentioned flap and beyond the fold line of the third mentioned flap Whereby separation of said edges of the blank is prevented. p
In testimonywhereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
