Description

GABRIEL A. NIEWIARDOWSKL- 0F CLVELAND, OHIO.
BATH-TUB SILENCER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Sept. 15, 1914.
Application filed February 25, 1914. Serial No. 821,059.
T o all whom t may concern Be it known that I, GABRIEL A. Ninwi- ARDOWSKI, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Bath-Tub Silencers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved bath tub silencer by means of which a bath tub may be silently supplied with water from the usual faucet, the object of the invention be,- ing to provide an improved deviceof this character which is cheap and simple, which enables a supply hose to be readily attached to and detached from av bath tub faucet and by means of which a bath tub may be supplied with water without noise.
The invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
The accompanying drawing is partly an elevation and partly a sectional view of a bath tub silencer constructed in accordance with my invention and showlng the same attached to the faucet of a bath tub.
For the purposes of this specification a bath tub faucet of usual construction is shown at 1 provided with a spout 2 which has a diametrically enlarged mouth 3. A nipple 4 has threaded engagement as at 5 with the spout of the faucet. The discharge end of the nipple is tapered downwardly or outwardly as at 6 In accordance with my invention I provide a hose 7 which is preferably made of canvas, is of suitable length to reach to the bottom of the tub and is provided at its upper end with a ring 8, the material of the hose being hemmed or otherwise suitably secured around the ring so that the latter forms an enlarged outwardly extending annular flange at the upper end of the hose. I also provide a substantially tubular coupling member 9 which is made of rubber.
The upper end of the hose, with its ring 8, is secured near the lower end of the coupling member, the latter contracting around the said hose, immediately below its distending or flange ring 8 and the upper end of the coupling member is pressed around the enlargement-B at the lower end of the faucet spout and contracts around the spout at a point immediately above said enlargement, as shown. thus entirely inclosing a nipple and securely coupling the upper end .of the hose to thel wer, tapered end of the nipple. By drawing downwardly 0n the coupling member the latter, being made of rubber, can be readily dischargedv from the faucet spout, thus also discharging the upper end of the hose from the nipple. The hose when thus coupled to the faucet serves to conduct ythe water therefrom noiselessly to the bottom of the bath tub thus obviating the nuisance of a noisy bath tub and the hose may also be utilized in taking a shower bath.
Having thus described my invention, I claimz- In apparatus of the class described in combination with a faucet' having a spout provided with a diametrically enlarged portion, a nipple attached to the faucet spout and having a tapered discharge end, a hose having one end arranged around the tapered K end of the nipple and provided with a distending ring forming an annular iiange around the intake end of the hose and a substantially tubular elastic coupling member having its lower portion engaged with and arranged around the intake end of the hose and its upper portion engaged around the enlarged portion of the faucet spoilt.
In testimony whereof IvaiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses. v
GABRIEL A. NIEWIARDOWSKI. IVitnes'ses:
