Patented Mar. 6, 1928.
UNITED STATES mass A. osnomm, or anon, omo. war-an. sinuous.
Application filed Kay 25, 1827. Serial Io. 184,085.
It is the object of the present invention to devise a simple and inexpensive attachment for a bathtub whereby the objectionable noise occasioned by the running of the water in the tub may be avoided. This invention is particularly useful where one desires to -fill a tub with water without having the noise disturb others within the house or apartment. The device is intended to be attached to the faucet and may be detached therefrom easily and without fittings or attachments.
The invention will be understood from the drawings and description, but is. not
necessarily limited to exact conformity therewith, changes and modifications being permitted within the scope of the invention and the claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a sectionalview of abathtub with my silencer in position;
Figure 2 is an enlar ed detail view at the discharge opening of t e device;
Figure 3 is a side View of the device removed from the faucet;
Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 of Figure 3;:
Figure 5 1s a section on the line 55 of- Figure 3; and
Figure 6 is a section on the line 66.of
Figure 3.
In the drawings, a bathtub is indicated at 1, having a faucet 2 therein which is of the single discharge or mixer type. When 86 separate hot and coldfaucets are used, the
silencer will be duplicated;
The silencer comprises a rubber tube 4 which is here shown as substantially elliptical in cross-section and provided with a central passageway 5 and a restricted open ing 6 at its upper end to he slipped over and be retained by contraction of the tube about the faucet. The silencer flares or is en larged toward its lower end and the discharge point is indicated at 7 At. this point the device is flattened, provided on its front. side with a plurality-of notches 8 to break up the stream of water. On the rear side of the attachment is secured a device for attac the silencer to the side of the bathtub so at the flow of water is directed along the curved base of the tub.
This attaching means, in the present form of the invention, comprises a pair of suction cups which are formed u n a strip 11 attached to thelower end oPthe device near its discharge point. Two of these suction cups are shown, for the sake of convenienc bathtub by pressing the suction cups against the side of the tub. This will support the discharge end of the silencer in position so that the water is delivered silently.
While the device is conveniently and, preferably made of rubber throughout, other materials may be substituted. Changes in form on roportions may also be restored to within t e scope of the invention. The device may be used in sinks, basins, washtubs or the like.
What is claimed is: v p 1. In a device of thecharacter descri a flexible tube havin one end restricted an adapted to be over a faucet, the opposite end of t e tube being formed with a discharge opening adapted to break up the stream. of water flowing through the tube, and an attaching device on the side of the tube near its discharge point by which it may be attached to t e wall of the receptac e.
2. In a device -of the character. described, a flexible tube" having one end ada ted to be passed over a faucet and secured in place thereon, and an attaching device at the other end of the tube by which it may be attached to a vertical surface.
3. In a device for silencing water flowing,-
intotubs or the like having an elevated faucet, a tube having a restricted end adapted to bepas'sed over the faucet and a. dischar opening adapted to deliver water near e bottom of the .tub,'and attaching means to hold .the lower end of the tube the side of the tub.
4. In a device for silencing water flowing I an elevated fanintotubsorthelikeha cetatubeha' mg tobepaasedo a restricted and adapted the faucet. and. a
opening adapted to deliver water near the bottom of the tub, and a suction cup carried by the lower end of the tube and adapted to hold it adjacent the tub.
5. In a device for silencing water flowing into tubs or the like having an elevated faucet, a rubber tube having a restricted end to be forced over the faucet and a discharge opening at its lower end, and a rubber suction cup secured to the exterior of the tube 10 and adapted to hold the discharge end thereof adjacent a surface of the tub.
