UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN F. CHEHEYL, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
BASE FOR DISPLAY-FORMS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, ST arr-Inn F. CHEHEYL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bases for Displayl orms; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in display forms and particularly to the foundation or the base port-ion thereof.
The object of the invention is to provide in a device of the character set forth a base portion designed to represent the feet and lower limbs of the human body and having such an ar 'angement of parts that the portions thereof which represent the feet. and limbs can be adjusted to various positions to simulate the natural attitude of these members, either when walking or standing still.
A further object of my invention is to provide such an arrangement of parts that the base portion itself can be tipped or inclined from the vertical, as may be desired, in order to secure the proper hang of skirts or other garments displayed on the form which is supported by the base.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a convenient means for taking hold of the base when it is desired to shift the same bodily and which will permit the same to be moved without disarranging the garments which are displayed thereon.
WVith these objects in view, and for the purpose of securing other advantages which will hereinafter appear, my invention consists in certain new features of construction and combination of parts described in the specification, pointed out in the claim and the preferred form of which is illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation of my improved base together with a garment form mounted thereon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the base alone. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3--3, Fig. 2. Fig. 1 1s a section on line 4t--'l, Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a section on line 5-5, Fig. 3.
Again referring to the drawings 10 represents a pair of members which form the front portion of the base. These members Specification of Letters Patent.

are preferably made hollow and are shaped or contoured so as to resemble a. portion of the lower limbs and feet. of the human body and are adapted for the displaying of hosiery and shoes. In the top of each member 10 is formed a 11 and at each side of said slot is formed a vertical flange 12 and at the top of each flange 12 formed a horizontal flange 13 so that the said flanges together form a guide-way at the top of each which is open at the rear end or back of the member 10, as shown at 1 1. On the to of each member is arranged an L-shapet plate 15 which is provided with a pair of openings 16 in line with each other. lhrough one of these openings 16 is passed a bolt 17 having a square head which is adapted to be slipped into the guideway at the top of the member 10 through the opening 1 1 at the rear end of said guideway. ()n the upper end of said bolt 17 is secured a thumb nut 18 so that when the said thumb nut 18 is screwed down on the bolt 17 the said plate 15 is firmly secured to the member 10. A plate 19 is pivotally connected at its ends to each of the plates 15 so that the said plates 15 can turn or swing back or forward relatively to said plate 19. A socket 20 is arranged centrally on said plate 19 and in this socket is slidably arranged a rod 23 which is held in position by a thumb screw 21. The rod 23 is hollow and is adapted to receive a rod 2+1 which forms the support for the main frame or form 26 and a thumb screw 25 is provided for clamping the rod 2 1 in position. From the plate 19 a curved arm 28 extends rearwardly and at its free end said arm 28 has a socket 29 in which is slidably arranged a rod 30. The lower end of said rod 30 is preferably forked, as shown at 31, and rests on the same surface as the front member. This rod 30 forms a rear member or leg of the base and together with either one of the front members is sullicient to balance the base and support the form so that the front members or legs can be removed one at a time without disturbing the rest of the dis play when it is desired to change the hosiery and shoes on said front members. The rod 30 is adjustably secured in the socket 29 by means of a thumb screw 32.
The operation of the device is as follows: As the plates 15 are pivotally secured to the plate 19 each plate 15 can be rotated around longitudinal opening or slot member 10 the end of saidiplate 19 so that the front member 10 secured to said plate 15 can be either advanced or retracted and can also be caused to assume any desired angle relative to each other. Also by loosening the nuts 18 the members 10 can be moved back and forth relative to the plates 15 after the said plates have been swung to their farthest backward or forward position so that the said members themselves can be moved or adjusted still farther forward or backward. Also by loosening the said nuts 18 the members 10 can be entirely withdrawn from the base when it is desired to change the display of hosiery or shoes thereon and if the said members are removed and replaced one at a time the change can be made without disturbing the rest of the display on the form.
What I claim is- A base for garment forms comprising a central standard supporting membr, plates plvotally connected to said central member at either side thereof, clamping means to hold said plates in diiferent angular positions with respect to said clamping member, a leg connected'to each of said plates, and an adjustable clamping connection'between each leg and its corresponding plate comprising a guideway in the one, and a clamping member passing through the other and having a part engaging in said guide- Way. I 7
In testimony whereof, I sign theforegoing specification, in the presence of two witnesses.
