SE REFIERE A UN PROCESO DE PURIFICACION DE ACIDOS GRASOS QUE COMPRENDE: A) HACER REACCIONAR UN ACIDO GRASO TAL COMO ACIDO DIHOMO-GAMMA-LINOLENICO (DGLA), ACIDO EICOSADIENOICO, ACIDO DOCOSAPENTAENOICO (DPA), ACIDO EICOSATETRAENOICO (ETA) Y ACIDO EICOSATRIENOICO, CON UNA SAL DE LITIO TAL COMO HIDROXIDO DE LITIO EN UNA SOLUCION PARA FORMAR UN PRECIPITADO DE SAL DE LITIO DEL ACIDO GRASO; B) AISLAR EL PRECIPITADO; C) DISOLVER EL PRECIPITADO EN UNA SEGUNDA SOLUCION FORMANDOSE DOS CAPAS INMISCIBLES UNA ORGANICA Y UNA ACUOSA; D) SEPARAR LAS DOS CAPAS INMISCIBLES; E) EVAPORAR LA CAPA ORGANICA PARA AISLAR EL ACIDO GRASO PURIFICADO.
