典型的に、本発明のデバイスにおける光学フィルムは、反射偏光子(例えば、交互の屈折率の規則的な繰り返し層を有するいわゆる多層光学フィルム又は「MOF」)、輝度向上フィルム、及び拡散反射偏光フィルム(時に、交互の屈折率のドメインを有する多層構造を有する「DRPF」と呼ばれる)からなる群から選択される。反射偏光子の1つの具体例は、3Mから市販されており、米国特許第7,345,137号(Hebrinkら)に記載されている、VIKUITI(商標)二重輝度向上フィルムII(DBEF−II)が挙げられる。やはり3Mから市販されている好適なプリズム式輝度向上フィルム(時に、「BEF」と呼ばれる)は、米国特許第5,771,328号(Wortmanら)、同第6,280,063号(Fong)、及び同第6,354,709号(Campbellら)、並びに米国特許出願公開第2009/0017256号(Huntら)に記載されている。本明細書で使用することができる拡散反射偏光フィルムの具体例としては、米国特許第5,825,543号(Ouderkirkら)に開示されているものが挙げられる。本明細書で使用するのに好適な市販の光学フィルムの具体例としては、VIKUITI(商標)二重輝度向上フィルム(DBEF)、VIKUITI(商標)輝度向上フィルム(BEF)、VIKUITI(商標)拡散反射偏光フィルム(DRPF)、VIKUITI(商標)増強正反射体(ESR)、及びVIKUITI(商標)高度偏光フィルム(APF)が挙げられ、いずれも3M Companyから入手可能である。
平均静電気減衰は、以下の方法を用いて決定した。試験材料のシートを12cm×15cmのサンプルに切断し、約50%の相対湿度(RH)で少なくとも12時間コンディショニングした。材料を22〜25℃の範囲の温度で試験した。静電荷散逸時間は、ETSモデル406D静電気減衰試験装置(Electro−Tech Systems,Inc.,Glenside,Pa.製造)を用いて、連邦試験方法標準規格10113の方法4046「Antistatic Properties of Materials」として以前知られていたMIL−STD 3010の方法4046に従って測定した。この装置は、高圧(5000ボルト)を用いることによって平坦な試験材料の表面上で初期静電荷を誘導し(平均誘導静電荷)、電場計測器は、表面電圧の減衰時間を5000ボルト(又はどの誘導静電荷でも)から初期誘導電荷の10%まで観測できるようにすることができる。これが、静電荷散逸時間である。静電荷散逸時間が短いほど、試験材料の静電気防止特性が優れている。本発明における静電荷散逸時間の全ての報告値は、少なくとも3回の別個の測定の平均(平均静電気減衰率)である。>60秒と報告される値は、試験されたサンプルが、表面伝導によって除去することができない初期静電荷を有し、静電気防止性ではないことを示す。試験されたサンプルが約3000ボルト以上の電荷を受容しなかった場合、十分に静電気防止性に帯電しているとはみなされなかった。
DBEFフィルム(光学層):各サンプルにおいて、3M製のVIKUITI(商標)二重輝度向上フィルムII(又はDBEF II)を光学フィルムとして用いた。このようなフィルムは、以下のように作製することができる。
PIL Aの調製
工程1:ビスヒドロキシエチル化イミダゾリウム塩の調製
50℃の油浴中の250mLのフラスコ内のトリス−(2−ヒドロキシエチル)メチルアンモニウムメチルサルフェート(50.0g、0.182モル、の水(37.5g)溶液に、リチウムビス(トリフルオロメタンスルホニル)イミド(65.18g、80%固形分水溶液(0.182モル)を攪拌しながら20秒間かけて加え、次いで、6.26gの水を加えた。3分間攪拌した後、反応物を最高100℃の浴中でロータリーエバポレータで濃縮して、101.75gの
窒素及び空気下におけるモノマーの光重合挙動を、示差走査光熱量計(フォトDSC)を用いて判定した。フォトDSCは、DSCモジュール2920を備えるTA instrument(New Castle,DE)であった。光源は、Oriel PN 59480の425nmのロングパス光フィルタを備える水銀/アルゴン電球であった。光の強度は、モデルXRL、340A検出器を備えるInternational Light光度計モデルIL 1400を用いて測定したとき、3mW/cm2であった。光硬化性サンプルは、光反応開始剤パッケージとして0.5%のカンファーキノン(Sigma−Aldrich)、1.0%のエチル4−(N,N−ジメチルアミノ)ベンゾエート(Sigma−Aldrich)、及び1.0%のジフェニルヨウ素ヘキサフルオロホスフェートを含有していた。10mgの硬化したサンプルをレファレンスとして用いた。
N−ブチルイミダゾール(新たに蒸留、37.2g、300mmol)及び2−ブロモエタノール(新たに蒸留、37.5g、300mmol)を室温で混合して、僅かに発熱反応を引き起こした。混合物を50℃で90時間加熱した。非常に粘性の高い液体が生成物として得られた。
3−ブチル−1−(2−ヒドロキシ−エチル)−3H−イミダゾール−1−イウムブロミド(29.9g、120mmol)に20mgのBHT及び2−メタクリロイルクロリド(13.8g、132mmol)を加えた。出発イオン性液体(IL)は、2−メタクリロイルクロリドに不溶性であった。混合物を室温で攪拌した。ILは徐々に溶解し、約半時間で均一なピンク色の溶液が得られた。揮発性の副生成物及び出発物質を反応の4時間後に減圧下で除去した。明るい茶色の液体が生成物として得られた。
指定の配合を有する3つの重合性透明コーティング製剤を調製し、DBEF−II上にコーティングし、乾燥させ、硬化させ、試験した。これらの製剤は、全て85%のメタノール及び0.15%のCIBA(商標)DAROCUR(商標)4265硬化剤を含有していた。そうでなければ、以下の表に示すように様々であった。各製剤を混合して、可溶性成分を確実に溶解させた。#16の巻き線型メイヤーロッドを用いてDBEF−IIの裏側に各製剤を更にコーティングして、約3マイクロメートルの平均乾燥厚さを得た。各コーティングを140°F(60℃)のバッチオーブンで2分間乾燥させ、次いで、Fusion UV Systems Inc.製のD型電球を用いるFusion F600マイクロ波駆動式中圧ランプ下で、35フィート/分(10.7メートル/分)にて2パスで窒素環境下で紫外線硬化させた。35fpm(10.7メートル/分)の速度では、紫外線エネルギーは以下の通り発せられた:UVA 460mJ/cm2、UVB 87mJ/cm2、UVC 12mJ/cm2、UVV 220mJ/cm2。全てのコーティングから、DBEF−IIフィルムの輝度向上特性に干渉しない滑らかな透明のコーティング層が得られた。
