図3は、主要な道に沿っての車による一般的な旅を示している。GPSデータを常にモニタすることによって、装置は、場所1−6のそれぞれに何時到達したかを決定し、その後、対応する音声フレーズがGPS−CDデータベースまたは放送データから検索され、受話器口またはスピーカーを介してユーザに再生される。
ユーザは、メインメニューから、または提供される場合にはオプションのイーエヌルートから所定のツアーを選択することができる。そして、システムは、ツアー案内を提供し、興味のある物を提供する。例えば、過去の歴史的な建物または他の名所を歩いたりドライブしたりする場合、各建物に関する情報が提供される。それは、情報が公開されている場合には、建造日、そこに住んでいた人、どの様に建築されたかに関する情報である。ダイアログ(dialogue)は、歴史上有名なサウンド、御者のむちの音、子供の遊んでいる声、空気に漂っている音楽を含み、これら全てが過ぎ去った時代の雰囲気を醸し出す。
このモードが選択された場合、このモードは、ツアーモードなどの他のモードよりも優先する。危険に近づくと、システムは、他の音声メッセージを中断し、ユーザに警告を発する。例えば、道路では、危険な曲がり角、学校、または急勾配の丘を対象にする。飛行中の場合、規定された領空の警告モードである。
道路の交差点に関するGPS緯度/経度位置がディジタル化され、各交差点に接近する各方向に対する音声を記録する。装置は、GPSデータを参照して、ユーザ位置及びある交差点に接近する際の移動方向を認識し、その後、前もって交差点に関する好適な音声を検索し、音声道標として機能する。音声道標は、場所の名前のみに限定されるものではなく、道路の種類、興味のある設定経路の場所、50マイルに対して燃料が不足している場合の警告などの多くの情報を含めることができる。
このモードが最初に選択されると、ユーザは、目的値を選択するように支持される。現在位置から目的値までのルートは、ルートデータから決定される。その後、装置は、各接続点において必要とされる一つの方向のみを提供し、不要な方向を示すことなく、目的値に到達できるようにしている。
装置は、中間領域において、興味のある特定の場所全てに関する座標試験し、現在のGPS位置から徐々に作業していく。その後、装置は、各行動に対して、短い音声フレーズを再生し、ユーザの興味を迅速に喚起する。ユーザは、その後、所定の行動を選択し、慎重を期するため更に詳細な事項を入手し、その後、GPSの案内がリクエストに応じて現場に供給される。自動ダイヤル電話番号が電話インターフェイスを介してユーザに供給され、筆記してから電話番号をダイヤルする必要なくして、ホテル、劇場などの予約できる。
装置は、ユーザが選択した旅行モード及びGPSによって計算された速度に適合するように、メッセージの表示を調整する。例えば、町中をゆっくりと歩行している場合、ユーザには、町中をドライブしている時または上空を飛行している時よりも更に詳細な情報が提供される。
所定の応用例では、特別な動作モードを必要とし、例えば、以下に示す場合などに、所定のデータにユーザの注意を向ける。
地図は限られた情報のみを提供するものであるが、歩くデータベースを用いると、GPS探索装置は、向き、方位に関する案内を提供するとともに、目印を名前で識別することができる。GPS探索装置は、詩、音楽、風景の説明を楽しんでいる暢気な歩行者も、適切な地点を歩行できる様にしている。個々の無線受話器口を用いて、電線による接続をしないで、またスピーカーによるノイズ汚染なくして、グループで音声を共有することができる。
例えば、一般的な航空モードを選択した場合、システムは、空港、規定された領域、危険領域、軽飛行機ルート、上空交通制御境界等の航空関連ポイントとの関連で、GPSによる位置、高度及び速度をユーザに識別させる。装置は、その後、音声案内、領空警報、またはボイスコマンドによる情報検索をパイロットに供給し、ボイスコマンドによって、またはうるさいコップピット内でボタンを押すことによってパイロットの応答を受け取る。
移動している時に電話番号を発見することは難しい場合がある。このシステムは、補助となるいくつかの機能を提供する。いづれのモードにおいても、ユーザは音声機能メニューにアクセスし、ホテル、エアライン等のリストを提供する。ユーザによって選択が行われた場合、システムは、データベース内に記憶されている電話番号を用いて、電話を自動的にかける。
装置は、ユーザによって選択される音声コマンドによって制御され、基本的な情報記憶及び検索機能の範囲を実行する。ユーザは、ユーザにとって快適なコマンドを選択する必要がある。これらの例としては、以下のものが挙げられる。
メニュー − メインメニューを再生する
オーケー(OK) − 最後に告げられたオプションを選択する
リピート − 最後の音声フレーズを再度再生する
Xモード − 特定のモードを選択する
ストップ − 音声を停止する

スキップ − 現在の音声フレーズにスキップさせる
ポジション − …からポジション(位置)を提供する
ディスタンス − 開始から…までの距離を提供する
ログ・オン − ポジションデータのログを開始させる
ログ・オフ − ログを停止させる
遠い場所を訪ねる前に、ユーザは装置を用いて訪問したいいくつかの場所を下見することができる。所定のビジュアルシーケンスが、単に、所望の場所の名前または緯度/経度を入力することによって、またはシステムによって提供されるリストから所望の場所を選択することによって、検索されて表示される。
オーディオモードの場合、場所の詳細がシステムによって音声で提供された時、データベースから画像情報も得られる場合には、ビープまたはプロンプトによってユーザに注意が喚起される。その後、ユーザは、必要ならば画像情報を選択することができる。
ユーザは、実際に場所に到着した場合、または下見モードでその場所を識別できた場合、データベースにアクセスして、その場所のいくつかの様子をコンピュータに基づきシミュレーションすることができる。例えば、提案された新しい道のルート、または提案された新しい建物のシミュレートされた外観を見ることができる。実際の場所の付近を歩くことによってGPSデータが変化すると、シミュレーションは、ユーザの向き、高さ、視点の方向、視線のアジマス角、及び時刻を考慮して、新しい実際の位置からシミュレートされた光景を描写する。シミュレーションは、バーチャルリアリティーヘルメットまたは他の装置等のディスプレイスクリーンまたは任意の形態の画像投射システムに表示される。ヘッドアップディスプレイとともに使用される場合、ユーザは、現在の画像とシミュレートされた将来の画像とを同時に見て比較することができる。
GPS探索装置の販売、CDの応用、及びリアルタイムサービスによって収益が得られる。
は、どちらかと言うと対話式のイエローページのような、所定の分野におけるビジネスの詳細を有している。しかし、イエローページの場合には消費者が広告主の場所を見つけなければならないという問題を残しているが、GPS探索装置システムの場合、たとえ広告主の所在が発見しづらかったとしても、消費者を広告主の所に誘導することができる。また、当該システムは、電話番号を自動的にダイヤルして、ユーザがその場所に行く前に要件をチェックすることができる。
Claims (1)
- 位置に基づく情報を検索してユーザに提供するためのパーソナル情報システムであって、
グローバル・ポジションニング・システム(GPS)データベース中のデータに含まれた情報の種類についての興味を事前に選択することをユーザに可能にする選択手段であって、前記選択手段を操作することによって、所定の興味が提供されるところの選択手段と、
グローバル・ポジションニング・システム(GPS)受信機を用いて、ユーザに関連する位置データを決定するための手段と、
前記GPSデータベースとして、割り当てられた位置、割り当てられた電話番号をそれぞれ備えて情報を提供するデータを含み、ユーザによる入力として興味のある事項を表す検索条件に応じて前記GPSデータベースからデータを検索するための検索手段であって、前記位置データ、移動方向または速度の少なくとも一つを含む付加的な物理的パラメータ、及び、前記所定の興味を用いて、セットされた抽出データを提供するところの検索手段と、
セットされた前記抽出データをユーザに提供するための提供手段と、そして、
前記提供手段によって提供された、セットされた前記抽出データからデータを選択することをユーザに可能にする別の選択手段と、
を備え、
電話または電話インターフェースが、ユーザが所定の電話番号の個々の数字をダイヤルする必要なく、セットされた前記抽出データから選択されたデータに関する前記割り当てられた電話番号に電話を自動的にかけることを可能にし、
前記システムは、歩行時と運転時を含む少なくとも二つの異なる旅のモードにおいて操作可能であり、ユーザの速度に適合するようにメッセージの表示を調整して、歩行している場合は運転している場合よりも詳細な情報を提供する
ことを特徴とする、パーソナル情報システム。
