Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A spray nozzle for supersonic flow comprises a conduit having an inlet and an outlet and a throat plane stabilizer intermediate thereof, the conduit having an inlet minimum diameter of at least twice the effective throat diameter. In one form Fig. 6 stabilisation is by means of air imploded through four ports 40 and by means of a sharp ring 42. In a nozzle for an aerosol can Fig. 8 gas is provided under pressure through an orifice 92 and an annular zone 80 provides air for implosion through holes 82, the air entering the zone 80 through passages 78 between the outer tubular housing 70 and an inner member 72. In a further modification Fig. 11 the nozzle unit comprises a housing 112 and a body 114 having an inlet aperture 124 and holes 130 communicating with a manifold 132 fed through zones defined between flats (134) of the inlet portion 120 of the body 114 and the housing inner surface.
