Abstract

990,877. Compression ignition engines. STANDARD MOTOR CO. Ltd. March 22, 1963 [March 23, 1962], No. 11156/62. Heading F1B. A hot plug 10 forming the lower part of a combustion chamber has its side wall slit at 16b in a radial plane through the axis of the outlet duct 12, the slit stopping short of the wall 17 of the duct. The side wall may have reinforcing projections 18a, 18b on either side of the slit projecting inwardly into the chamber. A ball 14 in the side wall engages a slot in the cylinder head to ensure correct location of the plug. The slot 16b prevents cracking of the plug on expansion. A recess 13 accommodates the end of a glow plug.
