Abstract
997,876. Concrete mixers. WINGET Ltd. Oct. 22, 1962 [Oct. 24, 1961], No. 38072/61. Heading B1C. A vehicle for transporting and agitating concrete has a body 2 mounted for discharge by tilting and having an open top, a rounded upwardly and rearwardly sloping bottom 4 of part conical form, and a rotatable agitator shaft 25 concentric with the rounded bottom and having blades 34. As shown, the shaft 25 is driven by a hydraulic motor 32; when, owing to increasing resistance of the mix and consequent compaction against one end of the container, pressure rises in the fluid supply lines 42, 62, a pressure sensitive device 63 actuates a micro-switch which starts a battery powered electric motor and initiates operation of the lever 51 by means of a crank, whereby the direction of flow in the pipes 60, 61 is reversed (see also Figs. 3 and 4, not shown). As the crank completes a revolution the lever 51 is brought to its original position whereby the agitator resumes its original direction of rotation ; such cycles of reversal will be repeated until the obstruction is cleared. The electric motor speed can be adjusted to provide for any desired number of revolutions or part of a revolution of the agitator in each direction. The control valve 36 may alternatively be operated by a hydraulic motor controlled by a shuttle valve having a time-base cut-off unit. Control levers 52, 53, 54 operate respectively the jacks 11 for tilting the body round the pivot 9 ; the jack 17 actuating the discharge gate 7 ; and the jack 24 for extending the discharge shoot 23. Discharge may be assisted by water sprays 94, 96 supplied with water from a tank 90 by a hydraulically driven water pump 46. The open top of the body may have a protective grill 101 and may be closable by means of steel doors or a spring-tensioned roller blind 104 mechanically, electrically or hydraulically actuated. The agitator arms 33 may be of spring steel and there may be an additional helical agitator 35 at the discharge end.
