Abstract

996,103. Steering Jet propelled craft. JACUZZI BROS. Inc. July 4, 1963 [Dec. 31, 1962], No. 26589/63. Heading B7V. The steering means for a jetpropelled ship in which the jet is directed through the transom 5 and an open-ended housing 15 includes a vane 35 in the housing mounted on a shaft 45 rotatable by a tiller 47. A rudder 39 pivoted at 49 and urged by a spring 54 downwardly to its normal operating position is mounted on a shaft 33, which shaft may be secured to the vane 35 so that the vane and rudder are operated together by the tiller 47, or the shaft 33 may be replaced by a concentric shaft extending through a hollow vane shaft 45 and connected to a separate tiller. A reversing gate 56 pivoted to the housing 15 at 73 may be lowered by a control rod 79 to block the discharge end of the housing and divert the jet stream through openings in the floor of said housing. These openings are provided with directional funnels 58 pivotally connected to a link 59 attached to the vane 35 to move therewith.
