Abstract

1,031,118. Convertible under-water vessels. H. H. WALKER. Dec. 6, 1962 [Dec.28, 1961], No. 46142/62. Headings B7A and B7V. A non-powered vessel 11 (Fig. 1, not shown) carrying one or more persons to be towed under water comprises a water-tight streamlined hull having steering means extending from it which includes a pair of diving planes 15, 16; a lever arm 17, 18 for each plane being provided inside the vessel for rotation by hand. The vessel comprises top and bottom halves as illustrated in Fig. 2 (not shown) connected together on the interior of the vessel by latches (not shown) and on the exterior of the vessel by latches 41. Besides diving planes 15, 16 there are diving planes 21, 22 which are foot-operated and also a course controlling means 24 having a fixed portion or fin 25 and a rudder portion 26 freely pivoted about shaft 27. A hatch 29 provides access to the interior of the vessel and hook 14 is provided for a towing rope. The forward end 12 of the vessel is fabricated from transparent material to enable viewing of the surrounding water. In a modification (Fig. 9, not shown) flexible water-tight elements are attached to the outside of the vessel to encase the arms and legs of a pilot. In further modifications the two halves of the vessel may be separated and used as boats with outboard motors (Fig. 7, not shown) or adapted as catamaran type vessels (Fig. 8, not shown) or canoes.
