[Also in Division H2] An electrically-driven pump assembly which can be operated from a domestic power supply includes means for reducing the domestic voltage to 50 volts or less and means for supplying the reduced voltage to a pumpmotor unit which can be immersed in water and which comprises an electric motor driving a pump impeller which is mounted within an impeller housing having a fluid inlet which opens directly to the exterior of the impeller housing, the motor being carried by a non-watertight supporting structure and the rotor and stator thereof being treated to resist corrosion. A pump for submersion in a garden pool for pumping water to a fountain or waterfall comprises an impeller casing 6 attached by screws to a support plate 3 of plastics material, the driving motor 1 being mounted on the other side of the support plate through a circular plate 8 screwed to the support plate and provided with two bosses 10 to which the motor is attached by bolts 11. A shaft bearing 9 is carried by the plate 8. The rotor and stator laminations of the motor are; varnished and baked or coated with a polyurethane varnish. Since the motor is exposed to the water, a low-voltage motor is used, the mains voltage being reduced to 50 volts or less by means of a transformer located outside the water. A motor housing 7 of plastics material may be provided. The pump inlet may be provided with a filter 15. The pump may be mounted vertically instead of horizontally.
