Abstract
699,436. Electric motors. MONO PUMPS, Ltd. (Robbins & Myers, Inc.). March 13, 1952, No. 6597/52. Class 35. [Also in Group XXVI] An electric³lly-driven rotary pump has the motor armature 19 submerged in the liquid being pumped, the field coils 10 being shielded by a liquid-tight sheath 15 which acts as a bearing for the armature, the bearing being lubricated by the liquid being pumped. As shown in Fig. 2 the pump rotor 18 is integral with the armature and both ends of the sheath are closed except for inlet and outlet ports 17, 13. In the Figures the pump shown is a helical pump of the Moineau type, the stator 12 and outer parts 14, 15, 16, Fig. 2, being of rubber or plastic material. End thrust on the rotor is taken up on a member 20. Liquid may flow through passages 23. To prevent rotation of the sheath, slots 22 in the core and a flange 21 for attachment to the core, may be provided. Lubricant grooves may be arranged within the sheath. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a bearing ring at the end of the motor rotor engages the plastic end of the sheath, to take up end thrust. The armature 19 may be surrounded by one or more bands of suitable bearing material, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown). Figs. 7 and 8 show further arrangements with the field coils and core isolated within plastic material either outside, or inside, the armature. An end-thrust member 20a is provided. Specifications 699,437, 699,438, [Group XXVI], and U.S.A. Specification 1,892,217 are referred to.
