Abstract

986,146. Shelling peas &c. MITCHELL ENGINEERING Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [Feb. 14, 1962], No. 5617/62. Heading A4C. Apparatus for separating peas, beans or the like from their pods comprises drums 1 which are rotated over an endless, openwork, movable apron 3, the drums 1 having at their peripheries beater bars 2 the tips of which are arranged to leave a clearance with respect to the apron 3 through which clearance the pods pass to be impacted by the leading edges of the beater bars 2 so as to become opened to release the peas which then fall through the apron 3 into a collecting means, the apron serving as a conveyer for removing empty pods. The apron 3 may comprise transverse rods 4 extending between chains 5 which are driven by sprockets 6 on shafts 7. The apron 3 and drums 1 may be driven from a common power source.
