Abstract

985,836. Shadowless lighting apparatus. ANCIENS ETABLISSEMENTS BARBIER, BENARD & TURENNE. July 2, 1963 [July 6, 1962], No. 26210/63. Heading F4R. Apparatus for producing shadowless illumination for surgical and like uses includes a refractor 2 and a co-operating reflector 3, each formed as part of a body of revolution and arranged so as to subtend the same angle at the light source 1, the refractor 2 being formed as a Fresnel optical system 2A and the reflector 3 being substantially cylindro-elliptical with one focal axis Z-Z 1 coinciding with the axis of revolution Y-Y 1 of the reflector and with the axis of revolution X-X 1 of the light source, the latter being displaced along the common axis from the focal plane F-F 1 of the refractor. All light rays from the source converge to form a luminous image of the light source on a screen 4 on the second focal axis W-W 1 of the reflector 3. In a modification, the reflector is replaced by a series of juxtaposed plane mirrors following the outline of the elliptical reflector.
