Abstract

973,914. Valves. WALTER KIDDE CO. Ltd. June 12, 1963 [June 26, 1962], No. 24469/62. Heading F2V. The opening of a fluid pressure assisted spring seated valve closure member is facilitated by the initial release of pressure through a small diameter pilot valve mounted thereon and displaceable upon a stem by a manually operated in-line plunger, the continued movement of which unseats the main valve. Valve closure member assembly 5 slides within body 1 and carries a washer 6 which is pressed on to a seat 4 by a spring 7 and by the fluid pressure from inlet 2 acting within chamber 15 via flutes [not shown) in valve outer member 8. A control knob 19 displaces a spindle 16, against the action of a spring 20, to act firstly upon stem 14 to lift the head of spring seated pilot valve 11 and then to raise the member 5. The knob is locked in the extremities of movement within notches 24 and 26 of a helical cam path 25 carried by diametrically opposed cam plates 21 and within which run pins 22. The relative position of plates 21 and pins 22 may be reversed.
