Abstract

808,577. Valves. ROTOL Ltd. March 27, 1957 [March 27, 1956], No. 9569/56. Class 135. An hydraulic safety valve comprises a body 11 having an inlet 13 and an outlet 14, a valve member 15 loaded by a spring 27 and subject to the additional retaining action of a spring- loaded detent member 23 engaging in a reduced diameter portion 21 of the valve spindle 17 such that when the valve lifts it initially has to overcome the action of both the valve spring 27 and the detent member 23, but once open can continue its lifting travel against substantially only the action of the valve spring 27. A further reduced diameter portion 28 may be provided in the spindle 17 to allow the spring-loaded detent member 23 to retain the valve when it reaches maximum lift. The valve can be re-set by relieving the spring loading of the detent member by drawing out the plunger 30 to compress the spring 24. This can be done by means of the lever 31 or by solenoid action wherein the plunger head 33 constitutes the solenoid armature.
