976,850. Radiant burners. MOFFATS Ltd. Nov. 26, 1963, No. 46726/63. Heading F4T. A A gas burner comprises a casing 10 providing a distribution chamber in the form of a rectangular annulus, a series of perforated ceramic blocks 11 spanning the distance between the inner and outer peripheral walls 16, 15 of the distribution chamber and inner and outer rectangular frames 12, 13 adapted to hold the blocks 11 in position on the casing 10. The edges of the walls 15, 16 have coplanar flanges 22, 23 forming bearing surfaces for the ceramic blocks and the frames 12, 13 have horizontal flanges 30 which overlie the ceramic blocks. The frames are secured by clinching spaced portions of vertical flanges 31 thereon over the flanges 22, 23 of the casing 10. The distribution chamber is deeper at one end than the other and is supplied with a gas/air mixture through an aperture 18 at the deep end. A baffle 14 is mounted in the distribution chamber in a plane parallel to the ceramic blocks and prevents the gas/air mixture issuing from the aperture 18 from impinging directly on the ceramic blocks. Brackets 20 are provided on the casing 10 for mounting the burner in spaced relationship with a mounting surface.
