Abstract
950,870. Printing-surfaces. OXFORD PAPER CO. Dec. 9, 1960 [Sept. 12, 1960], No. 42477/60. Addition to 879,628. Heading B6C. A planographic printing plate comprises a base and a planographic printing surface thereon, said surface comprising a pigment mixture and the reaction product of an hydrophilic colloidal adhesive other than polyvinyl alcohol and an insolubilising agent, said pigment fixture containing colloidal silica having a particle size of between 7 and 30 millimicrons. The hydrophilic colloid or adhesive may be 88% hydrolised polyvinyl alcohol, unmethylolated polyacrylamide, methylol polyacrylamide, oxidised corn starch, guar gum, Irish moss, chitosan, supulose, amioca starch, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, dextrin, dextran, corn hull gum, gum ghatti or tamarind kernel powder. The cross-linking agent may be dimethylol urea, trimethylol phenol, urea-formaldehyde, N,Nl-ethylene dimethylol cyclic urea, melamine formaldehyde or glyoxal. The pigment mixture includes colloidal silica and also clay, kaolin, china clay, calcium silicate, barium sulphate, or titanium dioxide, and may also including a dispersing agent, such as sodium hexametaphosphate, disodium dehydrogen pyrophosphate, tetrapotassium.pyrophosphate, or sodium silicate. There may also be added a catalyst to assist in curing, such as zinc phenol sulphonate, zinc acetate, zinc sulphamate, zinc silicofluoride, zinc chloride, alum, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulphate, ammonium phosphate or zinc borate. Acetic acid may be added as a thinner. Specification 667,154 also is referred to.
